Are Jay-Z and Beyonce getting married today? (Update)

There are reports all over Manhattan that Beyonce and Jay-Z may be tying the knot today. A party of some sort is definitely happening at Jay-Z’s apartment – though it could be to celebrate his recent $150 million deal with Live Nation. Evidence includes a white tent that’s been set up on the roof of the building, flowers and candelabras that have been delivered (some left out on the curb, letting People magazine get quite the snapshot), and AV equipment delivery. Several of the couple’s friends are in the city, including Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child band mates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, who for some stupid reason mention in a YouTube video that they’re staying at the Four Seasons in Manhattan right now. Other famous friends in NYC are Jermaine Dupri, Kanye West , Diddy, and Pharrell Williams. But to be fair, it’s New York City, no podunk nowhere. It’s not exactly weird that a lot of celebrities are here this weekend.

Jay-Z is breaking out the bubbly at his place Friday night for a big celebration. The big question is whether it’s to mark his rumored wedding to Beyoncé Knowles, or his $150 million deal with Live Nation. “Jay has invited some close friends, including Diddy, to his apartment in New York,” a source told the Daily News. “He hasn’t said if it’s for his wedding.”

Several sources close to the families of Knowles, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, said they knew nothing about a ceremony. There have been several false marriage reports going back at least two years. That hasn’t stopped Beyoncé’s dad, Mathew Knowles, from stringing along at least one celebrity weekly with the offer of wedding pics for sale.

“Mathew first started talking about wedding photos on Monday,” a magazine insider told The News. “He said, ‘How much are you offering?’ There has been a back-and-forth since then, but he has not revealed the date. He is definitely talking about there being wedding pictures.”

Well that’s classy. Always a good dad, and always a good manager, right? Supposedly the event will be attended by 30 guests. Which seems small for a wedding, but certainly happens – especially when you’re trying to keep things private. What does seem odd is that the guests were all told to wear ivory, according to VH1 and several other websites. I’m pretty sure that the number one etiquette rule for a wedding guest is not to wear white. In fact I think it’s one of the few rules people still pay attention to. And Beyonce doesn’t seem like the kind of girl to let anyone steal her thunder – certainly not on her wedding day. So although there’s a ton of evidence that Beyonce and Jay may be getting hitched today, that one little detail makes me think they might be pulling one over on us.

Update: Us Weekly is reporting that a reverend and his wife were seen entering Jay-Z’s building. I don’t pretend to have any idea how Us Weekly knows the guy is a reverend.
Leonardo DiCaprio buys eco-friendly condo in NYC

I love a celebrity that practices what he preaches. Leonardo DiCaprio has championed a lot of environmental causes – Vanity Fair even put him on the cover of the magazine for it, along with an in-depth article about his passion for green causes. Leo drives a hybrid car and had solar panels installed on his home in Los Angeles. And to further walk the walk, Leo just purchased an eco-friendly condominium in the Battery Park City area of Manhattan.

Every time he comes home, Leonardo DiCaprio is practicing what he preaches. The environmentally conscious actor has bought an apartment in Riverhouse, an eco-friendly building overlooking the Hudson River. The purchase was confirmed on Friday by Christopher Daly, president of Sheldrake Organization, the developer of the Battery Park City complex. Occupancy is slated for this summer.

The 264-unit condominium glass tower overlooks the river and a park, and boasts low emission paints, a 24-hour fresh filtered air system, a water treatment facility and rotating solar panels. DiCaprio seemingly also will have everything at his fingertips. The David Rockwell-designed high-rise features an indoor 50-foot lap pool, media cafe, fitness center, landscaped terrace and dog spa.

Riverhouse’s website states that 1 bedrooms start at $835,000; 2 bedrooms from $1,185,000; 3 bedrooms from $1,725,000; and 4 bedrooms from $2,975,000. They also say they’re “High performance Oxygen Green condominium residences.” The building sounds amazing – DiCaprio is certainly not roughing it by any means. The building’s main floors will also have a branch of the New York Public Library and a City Bakery. It sounds just as sophisticated as any other building a celeb would inhabit – and in a way that’s a good thing. DiCaprio is showing people that they don’t need to have a diminished quality of life in order to be good to the earth.

Turner apologizes to Cage over Chihuahua stealing accusations

It seems Kathleen Turner has finally smartened up a bit. Turner infamously accused actor Nicolas Cage of some crazy stuff back in the day – everything from saying he was arrested twice for DUIs to stealing a Chihuahua. Most of this was mentioned in the context of their working relationship while filming “Peggy Sue Got Married” in 1986. Imagine if one of your old coworkers from twenty years ago publicly accused you of stealing tiny purse dogs. It’d be hard to know how to react. Cage filed a libel lawsuit against Turner in the UK, and today she and her publisher apologized to the actor.

Cage’s UK solicitor Simon Smith said the Oscar-winning actor was “extremely pleased” with the outcome of the case “since he has never been arrested for drink driving, dog theft or anything else. As an actor who stars in many family-friendly films and who has a young child and teenager of his own, Mr Cage was understandably upset at having been wrongly depicted as condoning that sort of reckless, dangerous and criminal behaviour.” The actor, he continued, was “gratified that the defendants have done the right thing by acknowledging their errors and making amends”.

The actress, UK publisher Headline and Associated Newspapers, which extracted the book in the Daily Mail, have also made a substantial donation to charity. The donation will be made to the National Adult Protective Services Foundation, a US charity which benefits vulnerable adults. The Daily Mail has agreed to publish an apology and remove the article from its website. Headline [UK publisher] has also agreed to insert a correction and apology into copies of Turner’s book.

So we know that Kathleen Turner has officially apologized to Nicolas Cage in the UK, as have her UK publishers. I wonder if Cage will seek similar amends here, or if Turner’s general apology is enough. I’m still shocked that Turner’s publishers agreed to let her write that. Obviously they got a lot of press for it and increased sales, but I can’t imagine that would outweigh the cost of potential litigation. On the one hand, I can’t imagine a relatively sane adult thinking it’s a good idea to just make up random stories. On the other… why in the world would Nicolas Cage steal a Chihuahua? Turner has struggled with some drinking issues of her own; perhaps her memory of the time is a bit shaky. No matter what, it’s good that Cage has cleared his name, though I’m not sure many people gave the accusations much credence.
Oprah’s emotional breakdown over her cocker spaniel

Oprah has dedicated today’s show to her beloved cocker spaniel Sophie, who passed away last month at the age of 13. Sophie had been suffering from kidney failure. It’s been an especially hard year for Oprah, pup-wise, as she lost her other dog Gracie in July when she chocked on a plastic ball. Today’s show is on puppy mills, and contributor Lisa Ling presents what’s said to be a great – but hard to watch – documentary on the mills. Oprah’s staff decided to surprise her by opening the show with a tribute to Sophie featuring movies and photos. Unfortunately they didn’t realize just how emotional it would make her, and they had to stop filming after she completely broke down.

E! News has learned the TV titan broke down last week during a taping when producers decided to surprise Oprah with a video tribute to Sophie, her cocker spaniel who recently passed away after a battle with kidney disease.

The special show, which is scheduled to air this Friday, features an investigation into puppy mills. An audience member tells E! News that Winfrey broke down when the tribute began. “She was crying hysterically,” says the source. “She was uncontrollably sobbing. She could barely breathe it got so bad.”

The source says Winfrey’s emotional breakdown became so severe that producers stopped taping. Our source says some Winfrey staffers were regretting the surprise tribute. “They were like, ‘Oh, no, we shouldn’t have done that.’”

That’s so sweet and sad. Clearly Oprah’s staff members were well-intentioned. People love their animals differently, but it’s pretty clear that Oprah’s dogs are her kids. There must be this bittersweet relationship with them, knowing that she’ll likely outlive the animals she loves so deeply. I can’t blame her for breaking down – a month isn’t long in the grieving process.

After watching Lisa Ling’s reports, Oprah said that she would never buy puppies from a breeder again. Though she’s claimed that her dogs weren’t from puppy mills, Winfrey says that from now on she will only adopt from shelters.
Southpark skewers YouTube “celebrities;” plus DVD giveaway!

This week South Park did a great parody of all the infamous YouTube “celebrities.” After the boys make a popular YouTube video “Little Gay Kid” and become internet sensations, they decide to go collect all the money they’re theoretically worth. They encounter all the YouTube celebrities, who can’t seem to get over their 15 seconds of fame.

The Jolie-Pitt kids are brats who like to pick on Shiloh

Star Magazine is reporting that Brad and Angelina’s ever-increasing roster of kids are undisciplined, poorly behaved brats who can’t keep their hands to themselves, and their favorite punching bag is little sister Shiloh. Supposedly, Star interviewed a family insider who says that all the traveling, relocating, and their hectic schedule has affected the kids, and that neither parent likes to be the disciplinarian. This alleged insider also says that Pax and Maddox fight constantly, but that Zahara is the queen bee who likes to scratch and pull hair. Apparently, Shiloh got in the middle of a kid skirmish and ended up chipping a tooth.

With four children to manage and two more on the way, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt make it seem so easy. They travel around the globe at a moment’s notice with their kids in tow, but sources reveal to Star that behind the scenes, they’re losing control of their unruly brood.

With four kids come four very different personalities, which all seem to clash. And the sibling rivalry is brutal.

Maddox, 6, is constantly pushing Pax, 4, around in an attempt to show him who’s boss, says a source. “But Pax is no wimp, and he fights back.”

But it’s little Zahara, 3, who really rules the roost! “She screams and shouts at the boys when she doesn’t get her way,” says the source. Not even Shiloh, 22 months, is safe — and the toddler has the battle scars to prove it. “Z is always pushing or scratching her.”

Zahara’s picking on Shiloh is usually motivated by snacks. “Z once clawed Shiloh’s cheek after she tried to take her cookie,” says an insider who witnessed one incident. “She’s always pulling on Shiloh’s hair so she can steal her food.”

And little Shiloh has more than her hair to worry about! Recently while Shiloh’s three older siblings roughhoused, she got knocked down and chipped a tooth! “Angie gets worried when Shi plays with them,” says the insider. “She always comes back with a scraped knee or a fat lip!”

In fact, another source says food is a problem with all the kids and blames much of their rowdiness on a poor diet. “They eat fast food, pizza, chips and sugary soft drinks,” says the source. “Brad and Angie let them eat what they want because it brings harmony to the chaotic household.” To make matters worse, the insider adds, “because bedtime is whenever the kids feel like it, they get overly tired and cranky. Brad and Angelina don’t like to be too strict.”

There is probably a kernel of truth to this: as a mom of four, I will be the first to admit that kids fight, and sometimes it gets physical. But I find it hard to believe that Brad and Angie would let it escalate to the point that anyone would get hurt. It would not surprise me at all to learn that the two boys get into occasional shoving matches- it’s standard operation for little boys. And I do believe that little Z is probably running the show. I love that kid! But this whole story sounds like an exaggeration to me. Where are the photos of Shiloh’s chipped tooth? Where are photos of the boys with bruises or scratches? There aren’t any, because the story is bogus.

Mariah Carey is dating Nick Cannon

According to the National Enquirer, Mariah Carey, 38, is dating actor/rapper Nick Cannon, 27. Cannon made an appearance in one of Mariah’s videos for her new CD that was shot in March, and Mariah then promoted him to director of the video.

It was filmed in the Caribbean and the Enquirer claims “they mixed work, pleasure and romance.” Mariah is said to be crazy about Nick, but is trying to keep the romance a secret.

This rumor may have originated with Janet Charlton, who reported back on April 2:

Mariah, 38, has known Nick, 27, for years, and she asked him to do a cameo in a video for her “E=MC2″ album. They started spending time together working on the video script and they got VERY close. Sparks flew and the next thing she knew, Mariah had promoted Nick from a cameo in her first video, to DIRECTOR of her second video! They were both at Butter in New York the other night but keep up the charade of “just friends.” She’s been flying around promoting her album so they secretly hook up whenever they can.

Cannon has a bit of a reputation as a cad and has dated Christina Milian and Kim Kardashian. He was engaged to model Selia Ebanks last year after proposing to her via the jumbotron in Times Square. The two split up in October after five months.

Mariah seems like the kind of woman who enjoys relationships of convenience and Nick seems like the type of guy that’s all for that, so you could see these two having something together. It probably won’t last, neither of them come across like they’re looking for a commitment or are particularly capable of one. But whatever works for them.
