Brad Pitt says George Clooney “hates children”

I truly feel sorry for celebrities when they say they’ve been misquoted, had something taken out of context, or just had people not understand their tone. I never thought it could happen as often as they claimed until I started writing, and things I would say would be completely misinterpreted all the time. Then I realized that even when you’re careful, people can pull out teeny bits of phrasing to make it look like you said something that was not at all your intent.

So with that caveat in mind, it appears George Clooney really isn’t into kids at all – and the source is Brad Pitt. Brad actually said that Clooney “hates kids.” The source is Extra, and they’re generally pretty reputable. That said, they didn’t convey how Brad said it, so it’s hard to know if maybe he was joking or being facetious.

After the birth of Brangie twins Knox and Vivienne, rumors ran rampant that the tots had a godfather who would make the Hollywood elite green with envy — George Clooney! But is it true?

Dad Brad cleared up the reports of real-life pal George being godfather to his fifth and six children, telling “Extra,” “No, he hates children.” Brad laughed, “Are you kidding? I love the twins too much to subject them to George.”

Pitt and Clooney are currently promoting their Coen brothers flick, “Burn After Reading.”

The laughter makes it clear Brad said it lightly, but I really could interpret the quotation either way. I really don’t see Clooney as being the type to have kids, and he seems to know that about himself which is good. But he also seems pretty fun and like he’d be a cool uncle or god father, so I’d be surprised if he truly disliked all kids. There’s a difference between not wanting to have your own and not like the entire under 18 species.

But if Clooney really isn’t a fan, I’m sure that’s something the Jolie-Pitt clan learned pretty early on. There’s just flat-out too many of them for anyone to be able to hide their feelings for long. And George has publicly bemoaned all his guy friends settling down with babies. Maybe he’s just resentful of the loss of quality bro time.

Bryan Adams says ‘Summer of 69′ is about ‘making love in the Summertime’

Rocker Bryan Adams was on the CBS Early show and was asked about his 1984 hit classic “Summer of 69.” Adams admitted that the song was about sex, and said “A lot of people think it’s about the year, but actually it’s more about making love in the Summertime. It uses 69 as a sexual reference.”

Adams is 48 and was born in 1959 so in 1969 he would have been under 10 and too young to be reminiscing about playing guitar, being in a band and meeting a girl at a drive in that year. Instead he’s referencing some later summer, probably in the late 70s. The “Summer of 77″ just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

I remember when someone told me “Rocking Robin” was about sex, I was all “huh?” The “Summer of 69″ just makes sense, though.

Adams still looks great and he’s got a new album out. 11 debuted at number one in his native Canada when it was released on March 17 of this year. It came out in May in the US but is only being sold at Walmart and Sam’s Club and peaked at just 80 on the charts.

Madonna dedicates performance of “Like A Virgin” to the Pope

Heaven forbid Madonna ever go more than six days without creating some sort of major controversy. And running over my Madge timeline from the last year (I keep a detailed, stalker-esq accounting of all of Madge’s activities in my head) it appears that she hasn’t offended any major religion explicitly in at least a year. And it’s been quite a while since she’s made a dig at her old favorite – and technically the one in which she is still a member – Catholicism.

So needing a little publicity (because she’s definitely not getting enough of that since the whole A-Rod love triangle ended) Madge decided to dedicate her recent performance of classic hit “Like a Virgin” to the Pope. It’ll get her headlines, but it’s actually not nearly as shocking as you’d think.

Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet tour hit Rome on on [sic] Saturday, September 6th. Playing to a crowd of 60,000 people, Madonna dedicated her song “Like a Virgin” to the Pope, saying, “I dedicate this song to the pope, because I’m a child of God. All of you are also children of God.” According to Reuters, “Italian newspapers gushed over the singer’s electric performance and called the dedication a surprising provocation.”

It could be argued either way that Madonna was trying to stir shit up with her comment, but I think it was rather all-encompassing and inclusive rather than anything else. She’s had excommunication threatened on her many times and obviously has a sometimes unusual and tense relationship with the church – what with her attending Kabbalah services more than anything else. Beyonce’s $5 million engagement ring

Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z is the richest hip hop artist in the world. I tried to google his net worth and received answers that varied from $547 million, or 1/2 a billion, to $940 million, or nearly a billion. Either way, the guy is loaded and can afford a ring worth more than most people in the world can hope to make in a lifetime. Beyonce herself is valued at around $315 million, so between the two of them they can spend obscene amounts of money on jewelry.

Beyonce wore the ring, a flawless 18 carat diamond, to the aptly-named Fashion Rocks on Friday.

All eyes were on Beyoncé Friday night, when, for the first time, the singer publicly displayed her wedding ring on the red carpet for Fashion Rocks at Radio City Music Hall in N.Y.C.

The singer, 27, who secretly married rapper Jay-Z in April, flashed an 18 carat flawless diamond by Lorraine Schwartz, valued at more than $5 million dollars, according to the jeweler.

These two had a pretty low key wedding and they keep their private life out of the public eye. Beyonce has her own charity while Jay-Z has also done charity work, raising awareness and donating money to Play Pumps International. I think it’s outrageous to spend $5 million on a ring, but it’s not like they’re not giving back, and I suppose it’s relative to these two.

If they’re worth a combined billion, or 1,000 million (and that might be a low estimate) $5 million is just 1/200th of that. It’s still a hell of a lot of money to be sitting on someone’s hand. Beyonce and Jay-Z are not big conservationists - they travel around by private jet, and neither of them is particularly interested in ecological causes notwithstanding Jay-Z’s support of PlayPumps, which brings clean water to the third world.

Sometimes when I see celebrities who are supposedly into the environment carrying around purses worth thousands it makes me wonder what they’re thinking. (*cough* Julia Roberts *cough*) Like natural resources money is a commodity too, and by wasting it on overpriced consumer goods you may as well be driving a gas guzzler. I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be able to spend money as they please, many people think it’s everyone’s right to purchase whatever they like and celebrities are no exception. It’s also relative to how much money someone makes and what may seem expensive to us is not a big deal to someone who’s rich. It just seems hypocritical when eco-conscious celebrities have such overpriced items. It’s like money is different to them, but it could make a huge difference in many people’s lives, just as clean water and a healthy planet can. At least you can’t accuse Beyonce and Jay-Z of being hypocrites, because they’re gladly using their share and flaunting it.

Kate Hudson is rude; throws a fit at Rachel Zoe’s party

We’re all allowed our bad moods and bad days. But when you’re a celebrity you forfeit that right – at least to an extent. Fair or not, if you’re in a noticeably bad mood at a public event, people are going to hear about it. And pretty soon you’re known as that crazy diva bitch instead of the nice girl next door you used to be. Unfortunately for Kate Hudson, she was in one of those moods the other night. It doesn’t sound like it was anything legendary, nor does it seem indicative of some well-hidden bitchy persona. In fact it seems all the more surprising because she generally seems pretty nice and down to earth.

KATE Hudson shocked partiers Thursday night with her “nasty and rude” demeanor. Hudson arrived at the Gramercy Park Hotel for the Bravo premiere party for Rachel Zoe’s new show, “The Rachel Zoe Project,” in “an absolutely foul mood,” our spy said. “She was almost indignant waiting for a friend to arrive.” When the friend came, Hudson and pal got in an elevator headed to the rooftop party, but the actress became incensed when there were too many people around her. “In the elevator she kept screeching, ‘I’m freaking out! It’s too much!’ while waving her arms around.”

When she arrived at the roof, Hudson shunned the press line, claiming, “I don’t do that,” before going into a corner and demanding a bodyguard. She perked up when Kevin Connolly came over and flirted with her, before she left for the Rose Bar. A rep for Hudson said, “This is all ridiculous and completely untrue. Kate did go to Rachel’s party to celebrate her new show, had a great time and left with the group of girlfriends she came with.”

Okay Kate’s behavior does sound extraordinarily bitchy. But we all have those days. Normally we can just keep to ourselves, and few of us have press lines to avoid. There are about thirty things I wouldn’t like about being a celebrity, but the notion that you’re always supposed to be overtly nice and friendly to everyone you come across is probably number one.

And I think there’s a good chance that Kate is claustrophobic, and that’s what was going on in the elevator. I have a friend who has severe claustrophobia, and it’s brought on when she’s stressed, anxious, or otherwise in a bad mood, which it sounds like Kate was. Put a person who’s feeling that way in an elevator, and they’re likely to freak out. And that stifled feeling can remain long after they’re partying on the roof deck.

I’ll admit that it sounds like Kate was in a bad mood, but I think everyone gets a pass. This is really more noteworthy because it’s so different from the things that are generally reported about her, not because it’s part of her character.

Was Russell Brand’s VMA monologue offensive?

The staff over at the Daily Mail and The Sun have gotten themselves all worked up over Russell Brand’s opening monologue for last night’s Video Music Awards. Apparently it was quite offensive to British audiences, which I found especially shocking. I would think they’d have the best chance of appreciating Brand’s “unique” type of humor.

Apparently Brand’s labeling George Bush a “retarded cowboy” was the major sticking point.

Russell Brand faces being blacklisted by the American media after causing outrage with a string of offensive jokes at the live MTV Video Music Awards. The Essex-born comedian labelled President George Bush a ‘retard’, called Britney Spears ‘the female Christ’ and poked fun at young virgins.

He began his opening monologue by saying: ‘Please, America, elect Barack Obama. On behalf of the world. Some people, I think they’re called racists, say America is not ready for a black president. ‘But I know America to be a forward-thinking country because otherwise why would you have let that retard and cowboy fella be president for eight years?’

He added: ‘We thought it was nice of you to let him have a go, because in England he wouldn’t be trusted with a pair of scissors.’

I watched Brand’s opening monologue a few times and have to say that while I didn’t find it to be spectacularly funny, it wasn’t especially offensive either. People have been complaining about that particular use of the word “retarded” for a long time now. And while I agree it’s inappropriate, it’s clearly a part of the lexicon, like it or not. Nothing about an edgy comedian using it is particularly shocking. It’s quite simply a matter of taste, and no one can be surprised that a comedian like Brand doesn’t have much. He wasn’t hired by MTV because of his class. People can go ahead and complain about the word as much as they want – I abhor it. But it’s been used that way for long enough that I feel confident it’s a waste of time. And the more attention they give to it, the longer it stays relevant.

The joke itself was pretty stupid. There was just nothing funny, unusual, or interesting about it. Celebitchy complained that she laughed once during the whole thing. I counted, and I laughed a solid five times. Normally I’d still consider that a miserable failure, but compared to one chuckle I guess that’s pretty good.

I did like Brand’s whole riff on Bristol Palin’s boyfriend Levi Johnston. He joked that a lot fewer kids would be having premarital sex if they all had to go to the Republican National Convention as punishment. And made some joke about how from now on Johnston would be so careful he’d use a condom even when her masturbated. And would then take the condom and bury it just to be safe. I think four of my five laughs came during that whole idea. And I think sending kids to the Republican National Convention should become a new form of punishment. Everyone would behave a lot better.

Was Hugh Hefner dumped by Holly Madison?

Supposedly Holly Madison has finally left Hugh Hefner for good. Holly’s been waiting for Hugh to make an honest woman out of her for almost seven years. Rumors started quite a while ago that she wanted to have Hugh’s own little bunny, and that she’s been pestering him ever since. But apparently after seven years Holly finally got the message that it isn’t going to happen with the old guy, and she’s been cheating on him with Cris Angel – and plans on moving out of the mansion soon.

Amid rumors that Hugh Hefner’s main squeeze Holly Madison has been hooking up with another major playboy (magician Criss Angel), a Playboy Mansion insider not only confirmed that the rumors are indeed true, but also exclusively told Scandalist that Holly is leaving him. “[Holly] told Hef that she is moving out of the mansion and breaking off their relationship,” said our source as we were hunting for gossip at MTV’s VMAs.

Wait! There’s even bigger news … Because Bridget and Kendra are intending to leave to pursue their own careers, Hef is looking to replace all three bombshells from Girls Next Door. “Hef is actively seeking three new girls to replace them immediately,” said our source.

Could it be true? Holly always seemed to be the most loyal and devoted to Hef. Has Criss Angel worked his magic on yet another Hollywood lady — making her disappear from her long-term relationship with Hef?

This blog isn’t one we’ve ever heard from before and we think there’s a pretty good chance they’re making the whole story up to get some press. Which – to be fair – is working. Their information says they’re owned by VH1 and MTV, but they’ve only been around since early August. But considering who they’re owned by, it’s very possible they really did have staffers at the VMAs. That doesn’t mean their source is any more reliable, but it could be legitimate as far as gossip goes.

I’d guess if there’s any truth to this rumor it’s just to drum up more gossip for Holly. Kendra got a lot of attention for deciding to leave the show, and Holly probably just wants to look independent and like she’s got her own thing going on too.

Alec Baldwin says Greg Garcia, creator of ‘My Name is Earl,’ is a Scientologist

Last week, we told you how Alec Baldwin was whining in a New York Times op-ed piece about NBC’s treatment of his hit show “30 Rock,” saying that the network has “wrung the last drops out of Scrubs and My Name is Earl,” shows which he called “done” and “cooked,” by giving them hour-long premieres, while his show, which he referred to as “the red headed stepchild” only gets 30 minutes. Greg Garcia, creator of “Earl,” then shot back by calling Baldwin an unlikeable, psychotic narcissist. Alec was quick to send out a response to Garcia’s claims, at the end of his recent Huffington Post blog about the McCain-Palin ticket.

PS: My apologies to the cast and crews of My Name Is Earl and Scrubs. In my frustration with NBC’s reprehensible promotion of 30 Rock, I took an unfortunate swipe at both of those shows and that was not cool.

But, for Earl’s creator, Greg Garcia, who referred to me as a “psychotic”, I have only one question. Why are you Scientologists always rendering these medical opinions you aren’t qualified to give?

Garcia didn’t waste any time responding to Baldwin’s words. In an interview with the web site Gawker, Garcia had this to say:

“Alec, I can’t tell you how happy I am to once again point out that you are an idiot. I’m unable to answer your question about Scientologists because, although I respect anyone’s right to their own beliefs, I am not currently nor have I ever been a Scientologist. Maybe you should have done some research that extended past the comments section of Defamer before you crafted your insult.

“If you choose to attack me again may I suggest something witty about me creating the show Yes Dear or just simply a joke about the fact that I’m bald. Both true.

“As far as you being psychotic, anyone who thinks NBC wouldn’t do everything they could to promote a great show like 30 Rock, which they own, over a show like My Name is Earl, which they don’t, is a tad nutty.

“Good luck with the Emmys and don’t forget to tune in for the one hour season premiere of My Name is Earl September 25th.”

Wow! These guys are just not going to let this go. I have a solution: a 30 Rock/My Name is Earl Cage Match! Two men enter, one man leaves. I can see Tina Fey going up against Jaime Pressly, Alec Baldwin grappling with Jason Lee, and Tracy Morgan throwing down against Ethan Suplee. The winning team gets an hour-long special on Thursday night on NBC. THAT would be a ratings hit, my friends.
Jordin Sparks defends purity rings, says not everyone wants to be sluts

After MTV VMA host Russell Brand poked fun at the Jonas Brothers for their purity rings, American Idol winner and VMA nominee Jordin Sparks, who apparently also wears one of these rings, defended them. Brand pointed out that the three brothers could probably have sex with any woman they wanted right now, but choose not to. He also joked that his goal was to have sex with all three of them by the end of the night. Jordin didn’t think that was funny.

Before presenting an award with John Legend, she said: “I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring. Because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut.”

I didn’t think anything Russell Brand said was funny - but he wasn’t offensive, either. I think it’s silly that so many of these young stars tout their virginity in the first place. It’s not really anyone’s business, and half the time it turns out to be a joke anyway. Remember Britney’s virginity pledge? And does anyone really believe that Miley Cyrus is a virgin? Please. Still, it’s cool that young people like Jordin are choosing not to sleep around and act like total hobags, like Paris and Lindsay have done. But when you go on record claiming that you’re a virgin and wear special rings, you’d better be willing to walk the talk or you look like a joke. Right, Bristol Palin?
