Samantha claims she wants to marry Lindsay

The Sun has a report that Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson are definitely getting married in the next six months. Some version of this rumor gets all hot at least once a month (and invariably Michael Lohan comments at least every other month) before it settles down. However The Sun claims to have detailed quotes from Samantha, which is new.

SAMANTHA RONSON says that she WILL marry lesbian lover LINDSAY LOHAN in the next six months. Sam used her DJ slot at top LA hotel and night spot Chateau Marmont to announce the news, telling clubbers: “By the end of this year, my love will be Mrs Ronson.” She added: “Tonight shows the power of a woman – to underestimate that is to underestimate the world.”

Li-Lo - who yesterday showed off her trim figure in a bandage dress on the set of Ugly Betty - has also been talking up her relationship with Sam, plus their matching tattoos.

She told Marie Claire: “Samantha had some stars so I had some done as well.

“I am very happy. She is a fantastic person who has a great influence on everyone around her.”

Samantha’s comment sure makes you wonder. Not just for obvious reasons, but because it’s harder to discount a public statement rather than something made by “insider source.” It also shows that they’re really starting to make bold statements about each other.

It’s definitely way too soon for them. Lindsay is only 22, and a very immature 22-year-old at that. Given the nature of her parents, it’s hard to imagine she’s got a decent chance of ever developing a normal level of maturity. But she can still get a little more by waiting a few years before even considering marriage.

Russell Crowe begs Australian authorities to let Snoop into country

I will admit there is a very long list of celebs I’m afraid of. Sometimes I have dreams I meet them in real life and tell them what I’ve said about them, and then the dream normally ends with me in a puddle of my own blood and or tears. But I think of ALL the celebs I’m afraid of, Snoop Dogg and Russell Crowe are definitely in the top five. Put the two together… well I’d just give them whatever the hell they wanted.

Snoop has been denied a travel and work visa for Australia, thus preventing him from going on tour there. He’s also been banned from the U.K. While he has a long rap sheet with some super serious (older) offenses on it, the current bannings come mostly from his drug possession/use.

Crowe wrote a truly impassioned letter on behalf of his friend Snoop, reassuring the Australian government that he posed no threat to anyone and asking them to reconsider.

The rapper, whose real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus, has several criminal convictions for drug and weapons offences and was banned from Australia last year by then-Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews.

But Crowe, who has been friends with Snoop for three years, said the musician deserved to be allowed to perform here later this year. “I submit to you that Snoop Dogg poses no threat to Australia or to any individual in this country,” Crowe wrote. “He has toured here three times before without incident and there are no reasons to assume this tour will be anything but the positive experience the last three have been… Snoop has built a stellar reputation with promoters and audiences worldwide.”

Crowe also cited the rapper’s extensive charity work and said Snoop had pledged to make an appearance at a charity event organised by South Sydney Rugby League Club. “Some of our First Grade players will attend with him and he will deliver a powerful and positive message about rising through adversity, drawing on his own underprivileged background as an example,” Crowe wrote. “As you can imagine, such a visit will have a phenomenal effect.”

You can read the letter in its entirety here. My first thought was, “I’m not sure I’d want some actor with a legendarily explosive temper writing my character defense.” But Crowe’s letter is so eloquent, passionate, and well-written (I’m assuming ghost written, but who knows) that it really did change my mind. Of course I’ve sort of got a bleeding heart and would probably let Snoop in if he promised to only bring half his usual amount of marijuana, a quarter of his standard gun stash, and I’d be somewhat negotiable on his other vices. So I’m probably not the best judge of what a foreign government should do.

That said, I do like that in some ways the inability to get a travel visa seems to serve as more of a deterrent towards illegal behavior than legal trouble. Most celebs know they’ll never do any real time for most of their offenses due to good lawyering and overcrowded jails. But not being allowed into other countries costs them a lot of money and publicity, and that seems to be a pretty powerful incentive.

“Borat” get major legal victory, three lawsuits settled

After the Borat movie came out just about anyone who was in it sued the film’s creators and star Sacha Baron Cohen. Okay well not quite, but close. It was a ton of lawsuits, which was frankly to be expected for a movie of that nature. Play a lot of pranks on people and/or make them look dumb in some way, and you can’t really expect that everyone’s going to be a “good sport” about the whole thing.

Luckily for Cohen, three of the lawsuits have been settled.

NEW YORK — A New York judge has tossed out lawsuits brought by a driving instructor and two etiquette school teachers who said the makers of the movie “Borat” deceived them.

Judge Loretta Preska says all three accepted money and signed agreements releasing the filmmakers from liability. She noted in a Sept. 3 ruling the agreements said the plaintiffs consented to appear in a “documentary-style” movie.

In the 2006 film “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen plays an uncouth and anti-Semitic journalist traveling the United States in pursuit of Pamela Anderson. Cohen often fools people with his gag interviews.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs haven’t returned phone messages seeking comment.

Obviously there was no actual ruling, so it’s not like it set a precedent. Which would have been sort of nice actually, for there to be a more clear line between balancing free speech and individuals’ rights. However that part about the “plaintiffs consented to appear in a “documentary-style” movie” sounds like they were upset by the nature of their scenes or the film itself, but weren’t arguing that they were ever actually deceived.

I’d think that if the studio that put out Borat had any common sense they would have realized it was a potential legal disaster and protected themselves vigorously from the beginning.
Oprah, Brangelina on Parade’s most generous celeb list

While some celebs are most known for spending all their time and money promoting themselves (or slapping their own name on other people’s work) a good many should be equally known for their good deeds, which includes donating large sums of money to charitable causes. Parade magazine (that little insert magazine that comes in your Sunday paper and has ads for hearing aid batteries and wonder bee pollen pills) compiled a list of the 30 most generous celebrities.

Not surprisingly, Oprah came in number one. I’m pretty sure it’s a rule that she has to come in first place on any list. Even if the list were something like, “World’s tallest man,” or “Person who swam the most laps in a non-Olympic sized pool” somehow Oprah would still be best at it. Luckily this is a pretty awesome list to top, and she’s in good company.

Oprah Winfrey tops a list of the 30 most generous celebrities, compiled by The Giving Back Fund and published in the Sept. 14 issue of Parade. The 54-year-old talk show host and media mogul gave out $50.2 million last year to causes including her foundation and Oprah’s Angel Network. Power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ranked sixth, with donations of $8.4 million in 2007. Among their interests: Pitt’s charity Make It Right, which is helping to rebuild New Orleans.

Rounding out the top five: musician Herb Alpert with $13 million; Barbra Streisand with $11 million; Paul Newman with $10 million; and Mel Gibson with $9.9 million. “Some stars set a bad example from time to time, so it’s nice to celebrate those who are doing good work,” Parade editor Janice Kaplan tells Us Weekly in its latest issue. “We can’t all give $50 million like Oprah, but she makes us understand that giving back matters,” Kaplan adds.

Athletes Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan and hockey player Eric Lindros tied for seventh place, with donations of $5 million each last year.

At first I was kind of confused about how Herb Alpert had $13 million to give away. Didn’t he have a few singles back in the day? Is there really that much money left in vinyl sales? Then Wikipedia generously reminded me that Herb Alpert is the “A” in A&M Records. Which makes more since than “Tijuana Taxi” netting that kind of cash.

Brangelina is no big surprise – they’ve made it clear that visible charity is a big part of their lifestyle. A lot of people get terse about why they have to be so obvious about it and make such a big deal about their good deeds. Whatever their reasoning, when they do that they also bring publicity to a cause, so there’s advantages for everyone.

Anne Hathaway’s ex pleads guilty to charges

It’s official: Raffaello Follieri is a con man. The Italian sleazeball, who rode to fame on actress girlfriend Anne Hathaway’s couture coattails, has entered guilty pleas to all 14 charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. He is expected to be sentenced to at least five years in a federal prison. In his allocution, Follieri admitted that he knew what he was doing was wrong.

Anne Hathaway’s ex won’t be bothering her anytime soon — well at least for the next 5 years — after the dirtball pled guilty to 14 counts of con-artistry just moments ago in a Manhattan Federal court.

Raffaello Follieri will serve at least five years in prison for filching $6 mil while pretending to be the Vatican’s chief money man.

Meanwhile, Anne gave her first real interview about the situtation with Follieri in an upcoming issue of W magazine.

Anne Hathaway is breaking her silence about her split from Italian beau Raffaello Follieri, who was arrested in June on charges of wire fraud and money laundering.

“As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for Get Smart,” she says in October’s W. “And then I spent a week in shock at a friend’s house.”

(Vanity Fair has reported that Hathaway, 25, broke off her four-year relationship with Follieri, 30, just hours before his arrest. “You were the love of my life,” she told him by phone on June 23.)

On Wednesday, Follieri pleaded guilty to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. He will serve more than four years in prison.

“It’s a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden,” Hathaway tells W of the incident. “But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me. One said, ‘Go stay at my house.’

“And [Get Smart co-star] Steve Carell stepped up for me during an interview when someone asked a question [about it]. He said, ‘At some point you’re going to have to talk about this time in your life. You don’t have to do it this week. I’ll take care of anything that comes your way.’

“I’ve been shown such kindness,” Hathaway goes on, wiping a tear from her face. “Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone.”

She says she is still not over the ordeal (she admitted to reading Gandhi’s autobiography When Things Fall Apart).

While visiting her Rachel Getting Married director Jonathan Demme and his family, she got sad.

“They all had so much going on. And I just started to cry because I thought, ‘I don’t have a life right now,’” she says. “And I haven’t for some time, and I just haven’t noticed.”

“In the fall I’ll start focusing again,” Hathaway continues, “but right now I need to be me for a little bit.

It sounds like Anne was really blindsided by this - unfortunately, she was the last to know that she was dating a big phony. Rumors about Rafaello were swirling around for months before he was finally nabbed, but sometimes when you are in the middle of a situation, it’s hard for you to believe that the person you think you know isn’t the real deal. Anyway, I’m glad the guy is being forced to pay for his crimes- and I hope Anne is a lot more careful from now on.

Balthazar Getty’s wife doesn’t want to file for divorce

“Brothers and Sisters” star Balthazar Getty may have finally announced his separation from his wife - after photos of him and a topless Sienna Miller blasted across the Internet - but it looks like Rosetta Getty doesn’t want to be the one to end the marriage. The mother of his four young children, who has reportedly been mortified by her husband’s fling with Miller, is telling Balthazar that if he wants the divorce, he needs to file for it himself.

Sources tell TMZ Balthazar Getty’s wife won’t be the one filing for divorce.

We’re told Rosetta Millington will not pull the trigger on the marriage and the reasons are, to say the least, interesting. Rosetta is not exactly rolling in cash, nor is Balthazar for that matter. The philandering Getty is getting zilch from the family fortune. He is, however, pulling in a fair amount of money from “Brothers and Sisters.”

We’re told Rosetta doesn’t want to declare the marriage over, which would allow him to separate future earnings from her. She’s the one raising their four kids and she feels she’s more financially secure if she doesn’t file for divorce.

And there’s one more big thing. We’re told the Getty family is so appalled at Balthazar’s affair with Sienna Miller, they are supporting her — in more ways than one. So why rock the boat?

It’s pretty damning evidence when your own family sides with your spouse in a separation. I can’t say I blame Rosetta for her strategic move at this point. Her husband’s behavior has been deplorable- why should she give him an easy out? As for Getty’s net worth, if sources are correct, he may not have his income from his ABC show to fall back on for much longer. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Getty’s character will be “on the back burner” for a majority of the season - and there are rumors that he might even be killed off the show. Wonder if Sienna will still want him anymore if he’s not rich?
Michael Jackson’s underpants on eBay for $1 million

Today I made a list of all the things of Michael Jackson’s that I’d want. And it was a super long list. For once I’m not being sarcastic – the dude has some crazy stuff. Your own zoo? The bones of the elephant man? Jewel-encrusted toilet seats? I’m not actually sure the last one exists, but considering the other wacky things Jacko has admitted to having, a ruby-ensconced john doesn’t seem that far off. Plus it would make you feel really glamorous when you were using it. And also sort of like you had a rash. I digress.

Of all the awesome, auction-worthy possessions, I have to say the one I’ve always felt least likely to bid on is Michael Jackson’s underwear. Maybe that’s because I spend a good deal of my day doing everything I can to ensure I don’t think about Michael Jackson’s underwear. But someone out there clearly thinks the right bidder (collector? hobbyist?) can be found.

MICHAEL Jackson’s notorious tighty whities are up for grabs. A pair of size-28 Calvin Klein white briefs once belonging to Wacko Jacko will be auctioned on eBay tomorrow, with a reserve price of $1 million. The unwashed underpants have a sensational past. They were part of the evidence confiscated in 2003 by then-Santa Barbara DA Tom Sneddon, who wanted a DNA sample for his unsuccessful child-molestation case against the washed-up King of Pop. The briefs are part of a stash of Jacko artifacts offered by New Jersey businessman Henry Vacarro, who obtained them in a bankruptcy case. For extra authenticity, the briefs come sealed in an evidence bag and wrapped with police tape. Also being sold are the Gloved One’s handwritten note explaining why he wants an annulment from Lisa Marie Presley and a used half-ounce tube of skin-bleaching cream.

Wait, Michael Jackson uses skin bleaching cream? You mean he doesn’t look that way because of some genetic skin issue he got from his father like he said? I feel unfairly lied to. The listing hasn’t gone up yet, though according to reports (and there are a LOT of them) it will be online today. And by the way, never search for “Michael Jackson” and “underwear” or “underpants” on eBay. My little bit of free advice for the day.

Jacko’s underoos have quite an interesting legal history. I wonder if it comes with a chain of custody sheet or something. I’d throw in at least an extra (hypothetical) $25,000. And perhaps a pair of salad tongs or some other device for transporting the valuables. No offense to anyone implied: I don’t care whose used underwear it is, it’s used. Underwear. It requires tongs.

I’m going to be genuinely surprised if this nets the required $1 million. It probably will but the deal will fall through. I don’t care what kind of bizarre collector you are: I highly doubt you’re going to display Michael Jackson’s possibly criminal underpants that you won on eBay for $1 million. Mostly because it’d make you look stupid. For about 32 reasons.

Matt Damon: Sarah Palin as VP is “absurd… like a bad Disney movie”

I’m a Democrat and I’m all for Obama/Biden. We strive for some kind of transparency here so we try to make our preferences known and most of the writers for the site are Democrats. That said, we’re all getting a little tired of the political banter. Personally I like to focus on the celebrities to take my mind off the big bad world, which sometimes seems like it’s going to hell in a handbasket depending on your perspective. I’ve found that if I pay attention to all the minutiae of politics and the “real news” I can get upset and have to look at the beautiful elite and their problems to remind myself that everything is going to be ok. Look, Nicole Richie’s baby is so sweet and doesn’t she have such personality at that age? See how that lifted your mood? Babies transcend world problems and political beliefs.

When celebrities talk politics though, it’s hard to ignore all of them. Especially when they’re really outspoken and adamant about their political beliefs. Matt Damon has spoken out against Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin calling her candidacy “absurd” and poking fun of her “folksy” image as a hockey mom. While I agree with some of his assertions about her lack of experience and the fact that she just kind of burst onto the political scene, he does get a little too focused on who she is as a person. At the end he says he would like to know if she thinks dinosaurs were on the earth 4,000 years ago, which is something the creationists believe, and if she banned books, which was asserted by Time Magazine in an article about Palin. Damon says there’s a 1 in 3 chance by some estimates that Palin might be become President if McCain is elected.

Despite my similar political beliefs, I’m not really comfortable with seeing celebrities be so adamant against a candidate. I think it makes the side they support easier to vilify. It’s like people will say “Damon is pissed off, who does he think he is to dismiss Palin? Look at his guy.” He seems to be more upset with what Palin and McCain represent than with who Palin is as a person. Maybe he should be talking about what they’ll do for the country instead. It’s possible he did talk about all that, and it got distilled down to this segment where he kind of went off on Palin. A lot of celebrities agree with him, but they’re not likely to be so blunt in the way they state it.

Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Garner top the most overpaid movie stars list

Forbes did the math and compared celebrity salaries to studio return on investment. In many cases it’s not the celebrities’ faults that their movies failed at the box office, although it may speak to their need to pick better films in the future - or ask for a salary that’s tied to box office take, which isn’t going to happen. First on the list is Nicole Kidman, but she also lands at the top of “quickest return to pre-baby weight” ranking, so maybe it balances out for her.

1. Nicole Kidman

Kidman has an Oscar and earns $15 million paydays, but she’s proved to offer a poor return on investment. Despite bringing in $370 million in worldwide box office, The Golden Compass only grossed $3.36 for every dollar Kidman was paid. The Invasion lost $2.68 for every dollar that went to Kidman. She has a chance for a high-profile comeback with this fall’s epic Australia, which could earn the Aussie her third best actress nomination.

For every dollar she was paid, Nicole Kidman’s movies averaged $1 of gross income.

2. Jennifer Garner

Garner has stayed fairly under the radar since her 2005 big-budget disaster Elektra, which cost $40 million to make and earned only $56 million worldwide. Unfortunately for Garner her follow-up films didn’t do much better. Both Catch and Release and The Kingdom underperformed at the box office.

For every dollar she was paid, Jennifer Garner’s movies averaged $3.60 of gross income.

3. Tom Cruise

His recent cameo as a foul-mouthed studio exec in Tropic Thunder is earning raves and might usher in the era of Tom Cruise comedies. In the meantime, Cruise has to deal with the fallout from his recent dramatic blunder, Lions for Lambs. The film’s box office ($63 million worldwide) was bad enough that even without taking any upfront pay Cruise still earned the movie only $1.88 for every dollar he was paid.

For every dollar he was paid, Tom Cruise’s movies averaged $4 of gross income.

4. Cameron Diaz

The highest paid actress in Hollywood, Diaz pulled in $50 million last year. But her high salary makes it hard for the romantic comedies she stars in to earn a good return. The Holiday brought in $205 million worldwide but Diaz’s high payday meant the film only grossed $3.70 for every dollar Diaz was paid.

For every dollar she was paid, Cameron Diaz’s movies averaged $4 of gross income.

5. Jennifer Lopez

The singer/actress/designer has struggled at the box office for the past few years, choosing small projects like 2006’s El Cantante, a low-budget musical biopic starring her husband Marc Anthony, which barely registered at the box office. Her last big film was 2005’s Monster-in-Law, which grossed $155 million worldwide returning $6.85 for every dollar Lopez was paid.

Rounding out the list are Jim Carrey at a $4.11 return, Nicolas Cage $4.16, Drew Barrymore $4.38, Will Ferrell $4.67, and Cate Blanchett at $4.97.

Forbes notes that actors who command less than $10 million a picture are usually a better return on investment except for poor Jennifer Garner. She had two big films, The Kingdom and Catch and Release, that pretty much tanked at the box office last year and dragged her down. Russell Crowe was named the most improved with a return of $6.88 per dollar. That’s mainly due to his hit American Gangster. It looks like one big blockbuster can make all the difference. Will Australia be the film that brings Kidman back in the black for her employers? We’ll have to see.
