Britney Spears and her kids go to the pumpkin patch

Britney Spears and her two boys, Sean Preston, 3, and Jayden James, 2, were spotted out at Mr. Bones pumpkin patch in LA yesterday. Mr. Bones is a favorite Halloween destination for celebrity families, and has been visited by Tori Spelling, Marcia Cross, Tobey Maguire, and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.

Britney was accompanied by her bodyguard, assistant, and the boys’ nanny. Britney’s boys were wearing matching red, white and blue striped short sleeve polo shirts with blue shorts. At one point a child dressed in just underwear came up to Sean Preston, who looked amused.

While Jayden and Sean Preston have been seen out with other nannies, Britney is still using the same nanny she had when Sean Preston was just a baby. Here’s a photo of the same woman with baby Sean Preston as is seen in the far right of this picture. It must be nice for the boys to have some consistency in their caregivers given all the drama they’ve gone through. Kids are resilient, though, and given how young Britney’s kids are they probably don’t remember the time they weren’t able to see much of their mom.

Things are looking up for Britney now that her driving without a license case has been dismissed. Britney did have a driver’s license, but just for Louisiana and not for California. Britney was not required to attend the trial as it was just a misdemeanor, but it was thought to have affected her as she was seen out crying as jury deliberations were underway. The case ended in a hung jury and was thrown out by the judge. Britney’s lawyer said she’s “thrilled the court system, for once, worked in her favor.” He added that the positive outcome “marks a turnaround for her,” and said “This case was a thorn in her side for more than a year, a reminder of the bad old days.”

The days are sunny and full of pop radio hits for Britney now.

Elusive Michael Jackson goes shopping in Beverly Hills

It’s hard to find clear recent photos of Michael Jackson. In the past few years he’s been seen out occasionally at the odd party or awards ceremony, but when he’s photographed in public he’s usually wearing a mask or somehow obscuring his face.

Jackson, 50, was spotted out looking uncharacteristically happy and normal (for him) in Beverly Hills yesterday. The maybe former King of Pop went to a dermatologist, shopped at a cosmetics store on Robertson Boulevard, and was even seen at two antiques stores. He guarded his skin from the sun’s rays with a large umbrella and self consciously covered his nose at times, but was otherwise friendly and open with photographers and fans, smiling and waving for the cameras. Jackson went home with a big silver model airplane from the antiques store and some skin cream.

International superstar Michael Jackson visited a cosmetic and medical dermatology office in Beverly Hills, California today. Afterward, Jackson made a very public stop at “Alter Ego,” a cosmetics boutique on trendy Robertson Blvd. in Los Angeles. Jacko browsed through some skin-care products and picked up a package of Epicuren Discovery, an enzyme and propolis based spa product. Next, Jackson headed over to shop for some unique housewares, stopping by “Victorian Rose” and “Off the Wall Aniques.” MJ purchased a large silver model airplane and had his bodyguard lug it off to his awaiting car. The usually reclusive King of Pop waved at the cameras and smiled for his adoring fans!

Jackson’s album Thriller 25 came out in the US and around the world in February of this year, to commercial success. It features remixes of Jackson hits like “The Girl is Mine,” and “Wanna Be Startin Somethin” and sold over 3 million copies worldwide in the first three months after it was released. Maybe he realizes he’s still got fans and he may as well be friendly for a day or so. It’s kind of surprising to see him out walking around and not in a wheelchair with his face all covered up. He’ll never quite escape the slimy stink of the child sexual abuse allegations, but he can do wonders for his image with an occasional outing like this.

Suri Cruise gets a haircut, still can’t get a sweater

Little Suri Cruise, two and a half, was spotted out with her Broadway star mom, Katie Holmes, in Central Park yesterday. The tot had a new haircut and wore a puff sleeve blue polka dot dress with silver ballet flats. Many of you pointed out in earlier stories about Suri that she needed a haircut and her bangs were getting a little too long. It looks like her mom took care of that, but Suri is still in clothing that doesn’t look appropriate for the weather, as you also mentioned.

While Katie is in a jacket, Suri is out in a little dress that’s meant for late spring or summer. It averaged 46° in Central Park yesterday, so it wasn’t that cold, but that’s still too cold for short sleeves. At first I thought she wasn’t wearing tights but on closer inspection she looks like might have on light pale tights. They’re not the thick tights that kids usually wear, but I wanted to give her mom the benefit of the doubt. Katie is also holding Suri’s jacket, so maybe Suri insisted on taking it off. That doesn’t mean her mom should indulge her.

JayBird reported yesterday that Tom and Katie have an entire apartment that they use as Suri’s playroom. They have four other apartments in the same building in the East Village, though. Two are for their staff and one is a gym. Must be nice to own so much space on both coasts.

There’s some controversy over whether Suri has enough playmates, but she’s not even three yet. She seems to have a devoted mom and dad, even if they don’t dress her warmly enough and seem to push the limits of her patience with photo opportunities.

Jennifer Aniston tells John Mayer to keep his trap shut this time

One of the things that perpetuates the notion that John Mayer is a total asshat is his inability to just keep his yap shut about himself and his life. Whether it’s blogging, dressing up like a bear to talk to his fans about himself, or making comments to anyone who will listen, there’s not much about John Mayer or his life that people don’t know even if they don’t want to. For this reason, the word douche is used to describe Mayer more often than anyone else except possibly Michael Lohan.

According to OK! Magazine Jennifer Aniston is pretty much in agreement. Obviously in love with the singer, Aniston recently got back together with him, with one caveat:

Keep your mouth shut about our relationship and stop blogging about your personal life!

“Jen is fanatical about keeping her relationships private,” an insider tells OK!, adding that the former Friends star was “horrified” when John spoke publicly to OK! on a New York City street about their August breakup.

John’s kiss-and-tell antics had Jen-watchers believing the singer was arrogant — and had exploited her for publicity. Months later, John would come back and beg Jen for a second chance.

“She told him she wanted to get back together, too, but no more street-corner press conferences and blogging about her,” a Jen insider says. Desperate, John agreed.

So far John has been obedient, but the guy has a long history of not being able to stop talking about himself and now that he’s Jennifer Aniston’s boyfriend, that means talking about her, too. There are not many people who are as openly self-absorbed as Mayer, who think the rest of the world want to know every little detail about them and their life. Even if you’re a fan, the relentless attention seeking has to get old. I wouldn’t know, I’m just guessing.

Jennifer Aniston likes the attention, too, but she rarely speaks about her life, preferring to be seen and not heard. For Jen’s sake I hope John can be as content with just photographs of the two of them and steer clear of the blogs and verbal outbursts.

Sarah & Todd Palin want Bristol to get married sooner rather than later

Sarah Palin and her husband Todd gave a lengthy interview on October 15, to appear in the upcoming issue of People Magazine. The interview covers everything from what Sarah reads to how their kids keep up with school while on the campaign trail with her. Todd and Sarah talk about when he’s the boss and when she’s the boss and Todd talks about how it’s hard not to feel protective of his wife, but he knows she’s tough, too.

Another thing that the parents of five seem to agree on is the hope that now that eldest daughter Bristol has turned 18 she won’t wait until next summer to get married. Bristol, due in December with her first child with fiancé Levi Johnston, has had a summer wedding in mind for some time, but the Governor and First Dude are hoping she’ll move the date up a bit.

Now that Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter has celebrated her 18th birthday, the GOP vice-presidential candidate says she’s hoping Bristol and fiancé Levi Johnston – who are expecting a baby in December – will tie the knot well before the date next summer the young couple had been eyeing.

“Hopefully before that,” Sarah Palin tells PEOPLE in an Oct. 15 interview for the issue on newsstands this Friday. “Bristol turns 18 in a few days [Oct. 18]. That’s what we wanted her to wait for: 18, and a decision on her own about how she’s going to go forward, her and Levi, at this point.”

It sounds to me like Bristol and Levi have already decided on a summer wedding. Even though Bristol is 18 now, she hardly has time to marry before the baby is born, and at that point, what difference does it really make whether they marry in January or June? Isn’t having a baby at 18 enough to deal with right away without adding in a new, young husband and a household of your own to learn how to manage? I just think it’s setting the kids up to fail. The first year of marriage is hard, but the first months after your first baby would make it even harder.

I do actually understand the Palin’s feelings as conservative, Christian parents. I grew up around a lot of those same kind of parents and they were loving, wonderful parents. Wanting their daughter to marry and provide what would be seen as a stable, family home for their grandchild is important to them, and that’s great. But I think it’s important to think about Bristol just as much right now and let her settle into motherhood for a little while before she has to settle into being a wife, too. Summer isn’t that far away, and an Alaska wedding would be much more comfortable in the warmer months.

Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri joke about separation rumors and vomit

Janet Jackson has released a YouTube video thanking her fans for their love and support during her recent illness. Jackson was diagnosed with vertigo and migraines that forced her to cancel numerous concerts on her tour. But she’s better now and wants the world to know so she posted the video on boyfriend Jermaine Dupri’s Living the Life YouTube channel.

Dispelling rumors that Janet and Jermaine have split up, the pair playfully pretended to put makeup on Dupri since he was sitting in Janet’s chair, showed off Dupri’s new camera and laughed off the notion that Jackson had kicked him to the curb because he puked on her.

Jackson, 42, also showed her silly side: After pretending to put rouge on Dupri’s cheek as he sat in her makeup chair, she dismissed rumors that the two had split.

“Baby, they say you broke up with me because I threw up on you,” a laughing Dupri said as he held the camera.

“How lame is that?” Jackson deadpanned. “Because you threw up on me … Well, there’s no real love there, is it?”

Ah, yes, true love will allow ralphing in your lap, anytime, anywhere. If you can lose your lunch, or in this case your one-too-many Bacardi and cokes, on your partner and they still love you just as much as before, you know you’ve got a keeper!

Janet looks gorgeous as usual, backstage at a concert now that she’s back on the road. If you’ve never had migraines, thank your lucky stars! If you have, I know you feel incredible empathy for Jackson. I can’t even imagine having a migraine with stage lights in my face and music at ungodly decibels coming from all directions. I can’t even handle a slit of light through the drapes or the sound of the furnace kicking on when I have them.

Will Ferrell and Tina Fey meet again on primetime SNL as Bush and Palin

Former SNL star Will Ferrell made a comeback Thursday night on the primetime, pre-election, weeknight Saturday Night Live special as President George W. Bush, opening the show with an address to the nation where he said the election was between “the hot lady and the Tiger Woods guy,” both of whom were very “patriotized” and display “much characterization.” But his main reason for being there was for the opportunity that had been evading the “President” to publicly endorse John McCain and Sarah Palin. Claiming to finally have the chance to make it official since the country was on such an upswing and his approval rating was so high, Bush was surprised when told by an “advisor” that the country was, in fact, in a downward spiral and his numbers have never been lower. He apologized for not knowing that, but explained he had no way to know since he had declared the Oval Office a “bummer free zone” about four months ago.

Ferrell’s George Bush introduced Senator John McCain and Sarah Palin, but only Tina Fey as Palin entered the Oval Office. When the President asked her where McCain was she said that when the Senator heard Bush was going to publically endorse them, he disappeared. But not to worry, Todd was tracking him. Asked what she’d been doing lately, Fey’s Palin answered she’d been travelin’ around, talkin’ ’bout change, talkin’ bout Ayers and doin’ a little shoppin’.

When Palin uttered the Larry the Cable Guy line, “Git ‘er done”, Bush commented on Palin’s folksy image. Palin thanked him and she said she likes to think of herself as one part practised folksy, one part sassy and a little bit of high school bitchy. Bush told her he tried to do the folksy thing but after awhile it just came off as douchey.

Bush took it upon himself to advise Palin that she was going to be very important if they won the election, telling her that the VP is the most important position in the land, the President can do nothing without checking with the Vice President. Fey said she didn’t want to go all Katie Couric on him, but it’s actually the opposite, to which Ferrell said that’s not what Cheney told him!

Enter “Todd” in his snowmobile gear with the missing Darrell Hammond as McCain after having found him in the Adirondacks, still not wanting to be there to accept the endorsement of the President. Not speaking a word, and trying to pull away out of every photo op, the McCain impersonation was the exact opposite of the Palin impersonation in how they played to Bush. With pain visible on Hammond’s McCain face, Ferrell did his best George W. and looked into the camera and said “When you think of John McCain, think of me, George W. Bush… when you’re in the voting booth, before you vote, think of this face. A vote for John McCain is a vote for George Bush.”

Then they all delivered the opening line of the show in unison. Another hilarious night of over the top impressions and fun with this crazy election!
Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus on trial for elephant abuse

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is known as The Greatest Show on Earth but a former employee, in conjuction with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Animal Welfare Institute, Fund for Animals, Born Free USA and Animal Protection Institute are ready to claim in federal court that that it’s not the greatest place on earth for elephants. The lawsuit claims that the circus violates the Endangered Species Act by training their Asian elephants with cruel and inhumane methods. The suit claims elephants with Ringling Bros. circus are trained and disciplined with sharp bull hooks and by isolating and chaining the elephants for sometimes days at a time.

“We look forward to finally having the opportunity to establish at trial that Ringling Bros. inhumanely and unlawfully mistreats the endangered Asian elephants it uses to perform in shows all across the country,” said lead counsel Katherine Meyer of the law firm Meyer Glitzenstein & Crystal. “The elephants not only deserve to be treated in a humane manner but they are entitled to be protected under the law and we hope that they will be afforded such protection once this case finally comes to an end.”

Over the years, the plaintiffs have amassed a wealth of evidence to support their claims including photographs, video footage, internal Ringling Bros. documentation and reports from the United States Department of Agriculture. In addition to such evidence, eyewitness testimony from former Ringling Bros. employees and testimony from leading elephant behavior experts will be presented by the plaintiffs at trial.

As an elephant enthusiast, I stopped going to the nearby zoo a couple years ago because the last time I went a young elephant was chained in a small dirt area in the grass. The elephant was rocking back and forth. I watched him for 45 minutes, just rocking. He reminded me of an autistic child trapped in his own mind, unable to escape the loneliness and torture of being cut off from the rest of his world. I cried the whole time I watched him and when I asked a zoo worker why he was just being left there I was told that he was being moved and the transport wouldn’t be ready for a couple days. Anyone who would talk to me told me it was fine and it wasn’t hurting the young male elephant. I looked in his eyes, for a long time, that elephant was in emotional pain.

Elephants have powerful emotions. If you’ve ever watched a documentary about them, you’ll have seen the way they fiercely protect even the young of other elephants, as a group, and how they so sorrowfully mourn the passing of one of their own. Even elephants they don’t know, if they come across the dead body, they will gather and cry for that elephant. They’re incredible creatures and don’t need the kind of tactics used by Ringling circus to learn anything.

I have always loved seeing the elephants at the circus, they’re my favorite animal, I can’t help it. One of my favorite memories of my childhood was riding the elephants at the circus fieldtrip. But the thought of what they’ve endured just isn’t worth it. I don’t know what the fine or punishment Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Field Productions could face, but I pray it’s steep and severe. Maybe we could all take a poke or two at them with a bull hook while they’re chained to the ground for days.

Carrie Underwood unconvincingly denies Jessica Simpson fued

Carrie Underwood claims that she has no beef with Jessica Simpson, who is currently dating her ex, football player Tony Romo. In June, Jessica wore a t-shirt which said “Real Girls Eat Meat.” It was thought to be a dig at vegetarian Underwood. Underwood then half claimed in an interview published in August that Tony still calls her, saying vaguely “The phone will ring and it’ll be him, and I’ll maybe not answer.” Then Jessica said in a radio interview that she checked Tony’s phone logs and he didn’t call Carrie. She also said that both she and Tony had a laugh at Carrie’s false claim that he still called her.

When asked by reporters about Simpson, who is dating Underwood’s ex-boyfriend Tony Romo, the country star brushed off rumors of a feud.

“I met her once and she seemed really nice so I don’t have a feud with anybody,” said Underwood.

Is anyone convinced? Carrie was at the time standing next to her new Madame Tussauds waxwork figure, which looked like Celine Dion in a cheap wig. She described it as being ‘so good, it’s almost kind of creepy looking at myself.’

Carrie also added that she likes country music crossovers, although she didn’t specifically mention Jessica Simpson, and talked about maintaining relationships with her ex boyfriends while in the spotlight.

“I think it’s great that country music just seems to be opening their arms to people that want to be a part of it,” she said. “They let me in when they didn’t have to and they’re doing the same thing for a lot of other people.”

Underwood also spoke about her thoughts about ex-boyfriends and the role the media plays in her relationships.

“I generally have been friends with ex-boyfriends. Sometimes the whole media thing adds, well not sometimes, every time it adds a little obstacle,” said the American Idol winner. “But before all this, everybody I had ever dated I was friends with.”

It’s a good thing that Carrie Underwood isn’t thinking about crossing over into acting, because I don’t think she actually convinced anyone with this. Or maybe she wasn’t trying to. Sometimes being fake nice is a much better attack than to call names.

The Daily Mail has a selection of pictures from the New York Madame Tussauds, which I am astounded the British version of the museum allows to trade under the same name. I’ve never been to New York, but I’ve seen the London museum of wax and it is excellent, but these look like shop mannequins in costume.

Paris and Benji are so in love, it’s nauseating

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden are still going strong, even after 8 whole months. Paris continues to dress like I can only presume is her idea of what a rock star’s girlfriend should dress like (she’s probably watched every episode of Rock of Love) and despite the fact that’s she’s been wandering around London, they’re still in love. Nauseatingly so.

Benji Madden would like to set the record straight about those tabloid reports that he has been unfaithful to new love Paris Hilton. “Paris is the love of my life,” he tells Life & Style. “She’s the most beautiful woman in the world. These rumors are not only hurtful but completely false and absurd. She is my life and the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.

Everything they printed is a complete lie. I never give off any impression other than that I am madly in love with Paris. I am disgusted that people would make up such malicious lies. She is my life, my heart and my soul and is the most important thing in my life. No one exists but her. I am the most loyal guy in the world and would never even look at anyone else.”

And Paris? “Benji and I have an amazing relationship and I trust him with my life,” she tells Life & Style. “I don’t ever believe rumors regarding my love. I know he would never hurt me and he knows the same about me.”

I actually believe in true love and people changing and rainbows and butterflies, but I just can’t buy the idea that these are deeply in love. I also think it is a big deal for Benji to say he wants to spend the rest of his life with Paris, and it’s a statement that could come back to haunt him.

My theory is that Paris has used her alien powers to take over Benji Madden, and through her mind control tactics has convinced him he’s in love. She probably inserted some kind of device in his body to make him follow her around like a real boyfriend.

Paris has just released a music clip, although I’m confused as to whether it’s a new single or just something to continue to promote the Paris Hilton brand. It’s called ‘Paris for President’, and she offers to be your commander in bikini. Frankly, I’d be more impressed to see her in a suit, the bikini’s been done.
