Grease the musical just announced they will play their last show on January 4th.

Okay, the cartoon show was cute.
The vitamins taste great.
And the movie was okay. The sequel, however, was unnecessary.
But a musical?
Really?
Scribe Marco Pennette, currently of Samantha Who?, is close to signing on to pen the book for a musical based on The Flinstones.
The show will get a cheeky modern twist on Broadway, tackling issues such as Fred's caveman insensitivity, Barney and Betty deciding between fertility drugs or adoption, and "global cooling."
Pennette might want to nab some discounted tickets to Shrek first!
Fighting inequality and homophobia with….song and dance!

This is great news for Broadway!
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has launched the "Broadway Goes Green" initiative.
Que es eso, you ask???
The plan is to reduce Broadway's carbon footprint, which measures just how much greenhouse gases they produce.
Ten Broadway theaters have already started helping out! As of today, they've already replaced about 10,000 light bulbs with more energy-efficient ones.
Bloomberg said, "By this time next year, the lights on Broadway will burn just as bright, but the energy bills and our city's carbon output will be lower."
Looks like a win-win situation.
He added, "This commitment will raise the level of awareness for everyone involved in these shows including the audiences and that's going to have an impact that reverberates far beyond the Big Apple."
Aside from changing the bulbs, the theaters will try to use environmentally friendly items, such as environmentally friendly materials to build scenery sets. They'll also recycle and reuse props.
The theaters will use rechargeable batteries in equipment when possible and they're even going to wash costumes in cold water.
The environment will benefit and so will their pocket books.
Now if only more people started seeing Broadway shows again!

Mel Brook's Musical Young Frankenstein is closing it doors on January 4th after almost 500 performances according to Broadway World.
"Once again it has been a joy to work with such tremendous talents, Mel Brooks and Susan Stroman. Young Frankenstein's magnificent creative team and cast are second to none. As anyone who has seen this stunning production can attest, it is a spectacular and extravagant musical. In these uncertain economic times, my partners and I have decided to end our run on Broadway and focus our efforts on the first national tour, which will launch in September 2009," said Young Frankenstein's lead producer, Robert F.X. Sillerman.
There were rumors that Cloris Leachman was going to take on the role she originated in the movie Frau Blucher (neeiigghhh!), but I guess that isn't going to happen now.
Personally I am shocked the show lasted as long as it did with the high prices they were charging for seats. Next months YF, Spamalot, Hairspray and 13 are all having their final curtains, maybe Broadway needs to reconsider the cost of the tickets if they want the audiences to come back. Even with TKTS, I can't afford to go to a show anymore.

Not many Americans are interested in seeing Harry Potter's ween!
Broadway grosses for the week ending November 16th were just released and it looks like Equus is having some serious problems filling its seats.
Last week, on average, Daniel Radcliffe's play only sold a little more than half its seats per show.
On the other hand, Katie Holmes' All My Sons is doing well!
It was Broadway's 4th best performer for the week.
Mrs. Cruise's show was 91% sold on average per show.
Maybe David Beckham can step in for a few shows for his fellow Brit, Dan.
We bet those shows would sell out in seconds!

Looks like HAIR will be receiving a brand new 'do, because the critically acclaimed revival of the classic 1967 musical is now set to hit Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theater.
HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical has played to sold out audiences at Central Park's Delacorte Theater and was thrice extended.
The show closed in Central Park on Sunday September 14th, with Broadway previews to begin again February 13th.
Elizabeth I. McCann and The Public Theater - which hosted the original production - will produce the Broadway version, and will work alongside director Diane Paulus. In 1968 HAIR was the first off-Broadway production to make the move, and now the musical will repeat its history, although it is not yet known who from the original cast and crew will reappear on Broadway.
Here's hoping it has a long, beautiful run!

Another show is closing!
Broadway has been hit hard by the global financial crisis.
Show after show has been going under. And, now, producers for A Tale of Two Cities the musical just announced that the show will play its final performance in just over a week, on Sunday, November 16th.
Such a bummer, all these closings.
Who will be hit next????

Legally Blonde, Xanadu, Spamalot, Hairspray!
So many shows have recently closed or are about to. And you can now add Spring Awakening to that list.
Not even Broadway and New York City tourism are immune from the current global financial crisis!
Broadway World is reporting that Tony-winning musical Spring Awakening will closing soon.
The show will play its final performance on January 18th.
When Spring Awakening closes, it will have played 859 performances and 29 previews.
Annie can really really sing!!! So it's a good thing Miz Hathaway is being lined up to star in a Broadway musical.
Click here to check her out.
She sounds sooooo good!
What do U think???

Anne Hathaway might be heading to Broadway soon. In a musical!!!
We didn't know this, but Annie can sing!
Broadway World has just learned that a secret, closed door reading took place this weekend for the musical Promises, Promises.
Several big names in the Broadway world were in attendance, and some big named actors as well.
And the reading just happened to be starringSean "Still Closeted" Hayes and Anne Hathaway.
According to inside sources, their performance and singing impressed everyone this weekend.
As for the musical, it is actually a comedy based on the film The Apartment by Billy Wilder. The original show ran on Broadway from 1968 until 1972 with a total of 1,281 performances. And it has never had a proper revival!
So if all goes well and the musical gets picked up, let's hope Anne decides to join the cast.
She'd be great on Broadway!

Yet another Broadway show bites the dust!
After more than three years on Broadway, Tony-winning musical Spamalot is closing.
The show's final performance will be Sunday, January 18, 2009.
Showing the world that her Big City Girl persona is more than just a myth, Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted making her way around New York City earlier today (October 15).
The “Sex and the City” babe began by escorting her adorable son James Wilke Broderick to school. Once that was accomplished, she hit up a health food store as well as a bagel shop in the West Village before going on her way.

Miz Dolly Parton just sent us THIS CLIP (so brief!) from her new musical adaptation of 9 to 5, currently playing at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles.
Can't wait to see it!
With all of the crazy hours and non-stop preparation she’s been putting into her “All My Sons” Broadway gig, it’s good to see Katie Holmes taking some time off.
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling was spotted out and about in New York City’s Manhattan borough earlier today (October 6th) enjoying a break from her daily trips to the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
As the big October 16th Grand Opening night of “All My Sons” draws closer, Katie Holmes is maintaining a grueling practice schedule, while at the same time performing multiple times a week for preview audiences.
And earlier today, the “Mad Money” mommy was spotted arriving at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre for yet another day of work, looking a bit drab in a grey cardigan overtop a black shirt, with pegged boyfriend jeans, and black heels.
Katie Holmes isn’t the only Hollywood celebrity on Broadways these days. And last night (October 2), Maggie Gyllenhaal was spotted going to the opening night of “The Seagull” at the Walter Kerr Theatre, starring her husband Peter Sarsgaard.
The “Stranger Than Fiction” babe looked unusually conservative and subdued, sporting a long sleeved black dress complete with black-bowed heels.
Wow! One of my favorite songs from RENT is One Song Glory because of Adam Pascal’s voice as he performs it, so it was nice to hear his impression of it! His version blew me away so much I had to share it with y’all.

The negative buzz continues to build for the new Shrek musical!
After a rock out-of-town run in Seattle before its Broadway debut in November, the show is making some big changes tweaks.
A new actor is coming in to replace the current "Donkey" and other substantial changes are being made.
We're also hearing that a "show doctor" has been brought in to "save the production."
Sounds like a hot mess!
Enjoying a little mother/daughter bonding time, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise were spotted stepping out of their New York City apartment on Monday (September 29).
While the “Mad Money” mommy opted for all black attire, Suri was clad in a cute little white dress with a big blue bow tied around the waistline - with the duo venturing over to Alice’s Tea Cup.
Back on Broadway for a matinee performance, Katie Holmes was spotted making her grand arrival at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater for “All My Sons” on Sunday (September 28).
Once again, the former “Dawson’s Creek” cutie was accompanied by her parents, Martin and Kathleen Holmes, who are visiting from their hometown of Toledo, Ohio.
Out for her evening Broadway performance on Saturday (September 27), Katie Holmes smiled for photographers as she arrived at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater for another round of “All My Sons”.
And making this particular night especially important, Katie happened to be accompanied by her parents, Martin and Kathleen Holmes, who were at their daughter’s new gig for the first time.

He’s an old pro when it comes to stage acting, with rave reviews for his UK performances. But Daniel Radcliffe was still plenty nervous when “Equus” opened on Broadway last night (September 25).
He told press, “It was funny because tonight I didn’t expect to be nervous because we’ve done all the previews, we’ve had all the critics here. I thought, `Oh, we’ll do it tonight, it won’t be so bad.’ But I was terrified before we went out. I was like, `Omigod, this is it.’”
Always making for an adorable pair, Katie Holmes was spotted toting daughter Suri Cruise around New York City on Thursday (September 25).
The “Mad Money” mommy and her little angel were reportedly being dropped off at the Gerard Schoenfeld Theatre - as Katie was to participate in another day of rehearsals for her Broadway play “All My Sons.”

If you haven't seen it yet, better go and check it out soon!
Legally Blonde the musical is ending its run on Broadway on October 19th.
It's been playing the Palace Theatre since April 29, 2007 and will have played 30 previews and 595 regular performances upon closing.
The show has had problems getting people to see the show.
Sources say as of late its been playing to houses that are 60% full in a theater with almost 1,700 seats.
Ouch!
The first national tour of Legally Blonde kicked off on September 23.
Hope the show's doing better on the road!

Not even a MTV show to find the lead could save Legally Blonde The Musical! After less than 600 performances, Legally Blonde will be closing its doors on October 19th according to Broadway.com. Is there a Broadway opening in the works for Mr. 90210 Hasbeen?

Just how far will they go?
Yesterday we talked about the new Spider-Man musical.
Today, American Psycho is hoping to go from novel to screen to stage.
Producers are working on a musical about Bret Easton Ellis' wealthy New York serial killer, Patrick Batemen.
It'll be like a modern-day Sweeney Todd!
Neither a director, book writer nor songwriter have been attached to the project yet, but producers are aiming for a 2010 debut on Broadway.
The success of staged killers has traditionally been a little unpredictable, from the popular Sweeney Todd to the not-so-popular Carrie.
So is this idea a little, oh shall we say, psycho?
Yet another movie is being turned into a Broadway musical, this time it is American Psycho according to The Hollywood Reporter. Normally I hate when they do that but I think that American Psycho can actually work as a musical just because of that Hip To Be Square scene!!! Only problem is no one will ever be as good as Christian Bale in the role!

Reunited!
Dolly Parton gathers with her 9 to 5 castmates - Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dabney Coleman - to celebrate the musical adaptation of their hit '80s film this weekend.
9 to 5 the musical had its world premiere at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, and the original cast came out to support Dolly.
Parton wrote the music and lyrics for all the songs in the show!
We were in Toronto on Saturday, so we couldn't make it, but we're very excited to catch the show's very last Los Angeles performance next month.
Didn't Dolly look great????

Back for another dose of “All My Sons”, Tom Cruise escorted his lady Katie Holmes to the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in Manhattan, New York on Friday evening (September 19).
The two lovebirds walked hand-in-hand as they passed by lined up fans and photographers, with both Tom and Katie wearing jeans on what seemed to be a more low-key/casual evening.

Katie Holmes made her Broadway debut last night in a production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
And, no one was more enthusiastic about "Kate's" performance than - you guessed it - husband Tom Cruise, who gushed to The Associated Press, "Did you see it? … It was extraordinary."
He then leaped onto a sofa and pumped his fists in the air.
Just kidding!
But that would have pleased the group of about thirty Scientology protesters who had gathered outside the theater under the name Anonymous. With some of them wearing masks like the one in V For Vendetta and one member waving a "FREE KATIE" sign, the protesters chanted, "Scientology kills!"
Despite her captivity, Katie apparently put on a good show, much to the surprised delight of audience members. "I'm actually surprised that she's, you know, enough of an actress for being on Broadway," said one of them.
With a resume that includes such impressive titles as Dawnson's Creek and Batman Begins, are you really that shocked?!
Ha!

Counting down the hours until she takes the stage, Katie Holmes was spotted bringing Suri Cruise to the theater as she makes final preparations for her “All My Sons” debut later tonight (September 18).
Being held at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City, Katie will be joined onstage by the likes of John Lithgow, Diane Wiest and Patrick Wilson.

Katie Holmes - with alien princess Suri - arrives at the Schoenfeld Theater on Wednesday.
The actress' Broadway debut is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, when her play opens.
Holmes will star alongside the dreamy Patrick Wilson in All My Sons.
Can't wait to read what the critics have to say about her performance!
P.S. Who takes a young child with them to rehearsals???

With only a few days of practice left before her big Broadway debut, Katie Holmes was spotted heading to the theater for “All My Sons” rehearsals in New York City on Saturday (September 13).
The “Dawson’s Creek” cutie was dressed for the colder temperatures, wearing a black and white checkerboard buttondown shirt with a buttondown sweater overtop matched with jeans and unzipped black boots.
Getting to know the neighborhood around her apartment a bit, Katie Holmes was spotted meandering around Manhattan earlier today prior to her daily “All My Sons” rehearsal.
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling looked rather drab in a white v-neck shirt underneath a light grey cardigan with a dark grey scarf teamed with shiny black leggings and black flats.
Click here to read what the critics are saying about the new Shrek musical, which just premiered in Washington and debuts on Broadway this December.
Abba and Billy Joel have had their music turned into musicals and now finally The Monkees are getting one according to Broadway World.
According to press notes the story tells the journey of four musicians who “unwittingly become stand-ins for the most famous group in the world. It is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for those who remember the TV series”. It includes hits such as “I’m a Believer”, “Steppin’ Stone”, “Hey, Hey We’re The Monkees”, “Last Train to Clarksville”, and of course, “Daydream Believer”.
Daydream Believer will open a year from now at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. I know it is a whiles away, but I hope it is good enough to make it to Broadway because I have always loved their music. Maybe John Mayer could play Michael Nesmith’s role, he kind of reminds me of him!

After her stint on “All My Sons,” Katie Holmes is going to have vocal chords of steel! The “Dawson’s Creek” darling showed up at the Minetta Lane Theatre again this morning for yet another day of rehearsals.
And it looks like Katie is getting back to her monochromatic tendencies, as she was sporting a black leather jacket overtop a graphite grey top with black stretch pants.
There’s a reason Broadway actors are able to make their roles look so natural - they rehearse like crazy! And this morning Katie Holmes was back at it again, with more work on “All My Sons.”
The “Disturbing Behavior” hottie arrived at the Minetta Lane Theatre looking like she was ready for another long day of rehearsals, sporting a black and pink floral print shirt underneath a grey cardigan sweater teamed with a pair of jeans and black leather boots.
Following a restful Labor Day weekend, Katie Holmes was once again spotted arriving at the Minetta Lane Theatre for another day of “All My Sons” rehearsals.
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling sported a baggy grey shirt along with a pair of what appeared to be her husband Tom Cruise’s jeans.
This morning, the paparazzi waiting outside the Minetta Lane Theatre got another daily treat as Katie Holmes sauntered in for another day of rehearsals for her Broadway gig “All My Sons.”
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling sported a white scoopneck shirt underneath a grey cardigan sweater with a pair of jeans and high-heeled boots.
Her daily persistence shows that she’s dedicated to making her Broadway debut a success, and yesterday Katie Holmes was spotted heading home after yet another long day of work.
The “Mad Money Mommy” sported a brown, black, and maroon vintage-style sweater along with a pair of matching stretch pants and flats as she toted her briefcase to the waiting car.
Continuing on with her strict regimen of stage rehearsals, Katie Holmes was spotted making her way to the Minetta Lane Theatre for another day on her “All My Sons” gig.
The “Disturbing Behavior” darling looked almost sleuth-like, sporting a detective-style khaki trench coat along with black stretch pants and black flats.
Typical of her daily routine as of late, Katie Holmes was spotted being dropped off at the Minetta Lane Theatre in downtown Manhattan earlier today for her “All My Sons” rehearsal.
The “Mad Money” cutie looked very urban chic, sporting a loose-fitting sheer black top paired with a black and white scarf along with a pair of slim fit jeans and black flats.
It was another early morning for Katie Holmes as she made her way to her “All My Sons” rehearsal, sporting a white scoopneck top underneath a black and white striped cardigan with a pair of jeans and flats.
And though the paparazzi have been clamoring around the “Mad Money” starlet as she prepares for her Broadway debut, unfortunately the tickets haven’t been selling with the same enthusiasm.
She had a marvelous time painting pottery with her daughter Suri last night (August 20) and this morning Katie Holmes was on her way back to rehearsals.
And despite the warm August weather, the “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” actress looked to be rather bundled up, sporting a black sweater, grey jacket, and a matching grey scarf as she exited her car.
Up bright and early on Wednesday morning (August 20), Katie Holmes was back on the scene as she headed over to a New York City theater for “All My Sons” rehearsals.
The former “Dawson’s Creek” cutie looked city chic in a grey scoopneck long-sleeve t-shirt with jeans, a thick brown belt and flip flops.
She’s living the dream, getting ready for her big Broadway break, and Katie Holmes couldn’t be happier. The “Mad Money” actress was spotted this morning (August 19) on her way to rehearsals at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City.
Sporting a black and grey scoopneck top along with a pair of relaxed fit jeans and black flats, Katie toted a black briefcase as she made her way inside the theater.
Over the past few weeks we’ve grown accustomed to Katie Holmes heading off to her Broadway rehearsals by her lonesome. But earlier today she had a super-hot escort- her husband Tom Cruise.
The “Top Gun” stud proudly walked his wife/babymamma to her “All My Sons” gig at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, constantly chatting the entire way. Then again, they have been living on opposite coasts as of late.
Twisted Sister’s Christmas music is coming to Broadway in the form of a musical show according to Merry Christmas Radio. Dee Snyder (a Jew) is turning his band’s Christmas album in to a Broadway musical that will make Abba and Billy Joel…well I don’t know what but it will.
“I have turned ‘A Twisted Christmas’, the album, into a musical, and in 2009 there will be a new TWISTED SISTER album, which will be a companion piece to go with the existing ‘A Twisted Christmas’ album. It’s gonna be old-school metal songs that are an addition to the show. So ‘The Twisted Christmas – A Musical’ is a combination of the Christmas album, the new album, which will have new metal songs on it and the best of TWISTED SISTER throughout history. And when you hear more about it, you’re gonna love the idea. The people that are hearing about it get pretty stoked. So it’s early on, but I’ve finished the script and now it’s time, we’re gonna start working on a new album, new songs, so it’s the first time for TWISTED SISTER in a very long time… I haven’t written since 19… Man, ‘98 was the last time I wrote a song, and that was for the ‘Strangeland’ soundtrack. It sort of came out of left field, but we’re all very fired up. When you hear the concept… everybody who hears it just smiles ear to ear and goes, ‘Man, that’s awesome.’”
He continued, “It’s either gonna be called ‘A Twisted Christmas…’ or ‘THE Twisted Christmas – A Musical’. It tells a story, but it’s very much a concert event. But there’s a storyline going on between. The show is about 20 songs. The band are the only actors. There is a narrator, I will tell you that much, who fills in the spaces — he’s on video screen — and he tells — ala ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, to be honest — he helps move the story along and tell the story. If you saw ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’, off Broadway, [a band] performs and then in between there is interaction, which further moves the story along. So it’s pretty involved. It’s a unique combination of things that have been done before and haven’t been done before. And the goal, really — ’cause we’re not playing ourselves, we’re playing a fictitious band in the musical — eventually is to, like the BLUE MAN GROUP, have a whole bunch of casts out there during the holiday season performing the show. So that’s the ultimate goal. So it’s in development, but it’s well on its way. Like I said, I finished the script, everybody loves it, and now I’m sinking my teeth into writing the album which we’ll start recording in January/February for release in 2009.”
Oy! I actually totally want to see it because I love what they did on their Christmas and Dee Snyder is so warped it will probably be the best thing on Broadway in a really long time!

It was just another day on the job for Katie Holmes as she made her way inside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre to rehearse for her current gig “All My Sons.”
The “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” actress arrived this morning (August 14) at the Times Square locale, granting the paparazzi a couple of quick pics before heading inside.
There have been rumors swirling around the gossip mill as of late regarding a possible second pregnancy for Katie Holmes. And from the looks of her today, they may have some validity.
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling was spotted exiting her chauffeured car this morning (August 13) on her way into the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre for another day of rehearsals for her upcoming Broadway gig “All My Sons.”
Last night she was glamming it up on the red carpet with her husband Tom Cruise at the Los Angeles premiere of “Tropic Thunder.” And this morning, Katie Holmes was back in action in the Big Apple.
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling returned to the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in Times Square for her continuing “All My Sons” rehearsal schedule.
Looking city chic in an all black ensemble, Katie Holmes was spotted out on Sunday morning for rehearsals for her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons”.
The 29-year-old former “Dawson’s Creek” cutie has been spending the early part of her days at work, while always seeming to fit in time with daughter, Suri Cruise, when the evening rolls around.
The New York City paparazzi are certainly getting their fill of Katie Holmes, as she was spotted again earlier today (Wednesday) heading into work.
The “Dawson’s Creek” darling has been the picture of discipline, maintaining a constant schedule of rehearsals to prepare for her big Broadway debut in the musical “All My Sons.”

When Danity Kane skank Aubrey O'Day joined the cast of Hairspray on Broadway, we totally predicted that she'd hook up with her co-star, hottie Ashley Parker Angel.
And, now, she HAS!!!!!!!!
InTouch Weekly reports that the two are "together."
It was so obvious that something was going to happen!
She follows instructions well.
An insider says, "They've known each other for a while and now they're hooking up."
Of the budding romance, Aubrey, told the mag, "Only time will tell."
However, a friend says it's serious. "She's been bragging to her friends about how cute he is and even brought him to Pop Burger after the show on July 17."
Sigh…here's to another MTV romance that probably won't work (but they should try and get a reality show out of it before they break up)!

Yummy yum yummers!
Our future husband, Cheyenne Jackson, looks super duper fine at the opening night of Damn Yankees in NY on Thursday.
The openly gay actor stars in the limited-run revival alongside Will & Grace alum Sean P. Hayes, who for some inexplicable reason is still in the closet.
Lame on Sean.
Yay Cheyenne!

New York Magazine reports that Antonio Banderas is working on a return to Broadway!
He told the mag, “I am working with David Leveaux, who was the director of Nine, on that possibility."
No surprise that he's working with Leveaux! Antonio got a Tony nomination for his performance in Nine.
The project, he said, is Don Giovanni.
Banderas' publicist cut the chat short before they could nab more info.
It's not clear if Banderas and Leveaux will be working on a Broadway adaption of the opera or the play Don Giovanni written by a Portuguese guy named Jose Saramago.
Guess we'll have to wait and see!

The Music Man, Craig Bierko is back on Broadway in To Be or Not To Be according to Playbill!!! To Be Or Not To Be is based in the 1942 movie and not the Mel Brooks film based on the 1942 movie.
"At the Polski Theatre in 1939 Warsaw, Joseph (Bierko) and Maria Tura (Maxwell) are about to open yet another smash with their theatrical troupe. As the German invasion gets underway, the theatre is closed by the censors, forcing the troupe to face desperate times. But when a handsome young bomber pilot enlists their help to catch a spy, what is a group of actors to do? This hilarious black comedy is an ingenious commentary on the World War II era and an inspired tribute to the timeless joys of the theatre."
Previews begin on September 11th and the show opens on October 2nd.
While I am bummed that Craig Bierko will not be playing Gomez in The Addams Family on Broadway, I am happy to see him back on Great White Way. I am off to buy my ticket home just to see him back on the Broadway Stage! But in the meantime we can all enjoy him in Bathing with Bierko!!!
