She’s made quite a splash all over the world ever since her hit song “I Kissed a Girl” hit the charts earlier this year. And last night Katy Perry was entertaining the crowd over at the 55th Annual ONDA Awards in Barcelona, Spain.

The “Hot N Cold” songstress arrived at the Liceu Theater looking uncharacteristically formal, sporting a muted lavender strapless gown as she posed for the paparazzi.

It’s one of the biggest nights in the International music industry, and earlier this evening musicians from all over the world converged on the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England for the 2008 MTV Europe Awards.

Taking care of the hosting duties was none other than Katy Perry. And the “I Kissed a Girl” songstress had plenty of sass and costume changes (a total of 12) to fill the 2-hour time allotment.

That’s an easy question. First of all, to ensure triple success, be born in October. Why? Because you’ll have people in the spirit to want to attend–and actually feel excited about it, because it’s the only time of the year everyone can dress in drag and not get teased too hard about it. Step two, be Katy Perry–it doesn’t hurt to be known as one of the girls that makes out with other girls at parties or who dives face first into a whopping pile of cake. Also, when you’re famous, you get better gifts. Need more proof?

Inside, the more than 200 guests, including Josh Groban and Cisco Adler, were treated to a game of bobbing for body parts, a coffin photo booth and an execution chamber. Perry’s cake was in the shape of—what else?—a dead body.

Among her gifts was a 10-karat Rosette Button pendent with rubies and diamonds from famed jeweler Pascal Mouawad.

There you have it. You’re either Katy dressed as Steve McQueen and are receiving pricey gifts at a birthday disguised as a hip Halloween party or you’re destined to fail and spiral down into the bottomless pit of mediocrity. I hope that helps, Nobody!

Katy Perry has blown up on the pop music scene since the release of her love-it-or-hate-it song “I Kissed a Girl.” I was first introduced to her music a few months before on Chris Crocker’s myspace page, where her song “Ur So Gay” was his song du jour. A very cool sounding dig at emo boys with a killer video, I was impressed enough with her to appreciate the kitsch of “I Kissed a Girl” and was psyched she was getting radio play. But even if you like it, you can seriously only listen to that song so many times before you want to kick the radio, and then Katy Perry herself. Not ingratiating herself to any fans over 16, Perry also started talking too much and pulling crazy “look-at-me” antics.

So when Katy Perry announced that she wasn’t going to be like Britney, my first thought was it’s too late, you’re following the blueprint, chica. Between outing her ultra religious, minister parents as wild, drinking, sexing young adults, jumping face first into a cake, posing in knife-wielding photo shoots and attempting to strike pseudo-retro-coy poses any time a camera was around, she looked to be fast-forwarding on her way to overexposure and crazy ala Spears. My second thought, was you’re right, Katy, you’re no Britney Spears. With said fast-forwarding overexposure, Katy Perry is prime to be little more than a flash in the pop music pan if she’s not careful.

What Katy Perry meant though was the one thing that didn’t cross my mind.

When asked how she would stop herself copying Britney, who had a public breakdown earlier this year, Katy replied: “You have to be really strong-headed to survive in this industry.

“If you are going to get into it, lose your vices because they are not something you should have - especially if you are in the public eye. Eat your vegetables, take your vitamins and be discerning about the people that are around you.

“Know who is a creep and who is not, who is there for the right reasons and who is not there for the right reasons.”

Perry went on to explain her fashion sense as a fascination with the style and poise of women in the 1940’s. While Katy might or might not be another Britney, she’s definitely no Dita. Perry’s style is more of a caricature of 40’s fashion, punctuated by what looks like 80’s reproductions. She embraces the kitsch, though, and pulls off the very poor and uninformed man’s Dita Von Teese.

I still like her, she’s still fun in an absentminded kind of way. But her appeal diminishes with each unabashed and tawdry attempt to call attention to herself. If she just stopped trying to appear so cool, she might actually be cool.

Katy Perry performed her hit song “I Kissed a Girl” last night at the MTV Latin America awards. After jumping onto a cake at the end of her performance (why not?), Katy proceeded to slip and fall on her ass like four times. Note Katy’s bandmate dressed up like a mariachi. Mexicans love when white people do that shit. I think it shows them that you have a firm understanding and appreciation of their culture. They also love when you yell “hey amigo” to get their attention — especially the ones who are fifth-generation Americans that don’t speak a word of Spanish, like my lawyer. Go ahead and try it. You just may find yourself rewarded with an appreciative smile.

As we told you earlier this week, Katy Perry opened up about her personal life in the new issue of Blender magazine, and she also blabbed a bit about her folks too!

And, although most parents aren't perfect, Katy's have an 'interesting' background.

In the mag, she confesses that's that her father, now a preacher, was a druggie back in the day.

Perry said, "My dad would have died from one tab of Strawberry Fields (LSD) too many if he hadn’t found God.”

Aside from her dad being a druggie, turns out her mom, Mary Hudson, had "dated" guitar legend Jimi Hendrix. And, by "dated" she means went out on just one date, unfortunately. She coulda been a Hendrix!!!

Seems her mom wasn't always the best behaved. She once left home to "travel the world." That's when she met and Hendrix -in Spain.

Perry says, "He just came up to her in a club and picked her out."

But, her mom, who's an evangelical Christian preacher now, is still not a fan of her main hit, I Kissed a Girl, since it promotes "sin."

Maybe there's hope for Amy Winehouse after all????

Jesus Christ, Superstar: Growing up in her parent’s Evangelical ministry, she says “It was kind of an island. We spoke in tongues. We knew there was this one way, and all the other ways were wrong.” In Perry’s house, deviled eggs were called angeled eggs. “I didn’t know enough to ask my mom, ‘How come we call them that? Everybody else calls them something else.’” She’s protective of her parents beliefs, even if she doesn’t share them anymore: “They found God at a time when they really needed to, and I believe in the God they found. "It was really difficult, drinking became a problem. It got out of control until I said, OK - back to work. I know I'm speaking for someone, even if it is someone silly."

Thug Life: Of her boyfriend, Gym Class Heroes front man Travis McCoy “He’s thug-nificent,” Perry says. “I can’t believe I got a thug to commit!” “We weren’t really together, it was casual. But soulless hooking up didn’t seem so hot to me. I always wanted to have a romance. I said “Excuse me, I’ve been coming to a number of your shows in the greater Los Angeles area for quite some time now. I’ve been your Penny Lane long enough, and now I want to be your Grace Kelly.”

She’s from Santa Barbara, not The Hills: Perry's thrift-store bombshell style is a big part of her appeal — this is definitely one pop star you wouldn't get confused with the girls from The Hills. "Hellz to the f**k no! There's no comparison. No offense, but those ladies are a totally different breed. A cheeseburger's fine if you're just looking for something quick to fill you up, but there's no substitute for the filet!"

Okay, after seeing Katy Perry in her German photo shoot, I’m really getting bothered by having to see her elongated head all the time. I have to admit, it was cute at first because she was wearing some lingerie getup, but now fully coming to the realization that Ted Danson has a little bit of cranial competition is not all that exciting. All I’m asking is for some layers or curls or something so I don’t always have to try to figure out if her head is as big as her chest, then we can go back to possibly considering Katy as a cute whore.

She’s had one of the most controversial hits in recent memory, and Katy Perry claims that her song “I Kissed a Girl” comes from true-life experience.

At a 2008 MTV Video Music Awards pre-party last Saturday, Miss Perry told FOX Pop Tarts’ Hollie McKay, “I really did kiss a girl. It was one of those frat-type songs that was just fun. I don’t think people got the wrong idea — every girl kisses their friend at some point, right?”

Katy Perry was filming her new music video "Hot N Cold" in Los Angeles yesterday, and we got an exclusive behind-the-scenes sneak peak! The "I Kissed A Girl" hottie wore a pink wedding dress for half of the shoot, and then ripped it off to reveal a seriously sexy one piece for the rest of the scenes. And yes, in the wedding scene, her maid of honor is a dude in drag - loves it! Katy chatted with our photogs, and fans on the set gave a shout out to the singer, thanking her for letting them appear in her vid. Katy Perry spent a hard day at work on her newest music video, and our paparazzo Scotty Wilson was there to document the entire thing! We love these fotos of Katy in various wedding attire, including a cute little playsuit, Katy’s signature fashion piece. Katy also dressed in a wedding gown as she filmed a in North Hollywood, California. She rode a bicycle and lost the train of her dress for certain scenes, and had a stunt double for some of the tougher scenes. When Katy finally got ready to walk down the aisle, she wore a spunky bride dress and had a whole wedding party ready and waiting. We wonder if she went through with it, since it was a groom and not a girl!

Katy Perry is sure great at promoting herself - her “feud” with Miley Cyrus had some legs until it was revealed that the two are close buddies, and certainly any song about girl-on-girl action is bound to get some attention. We just hope that Ms. perry will have a hit song pretty soon, or else someone might be calling her a one hit wonder. Kinda like her BF, Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes. Ouch, that was harsh, and we take it back. We think this is a super cute couple, and we like that they posed it up at the Grand opening of Rok nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada last night. The happy couple smooched and cuddled, with Katy in a very Vegas outfit.

The always-popular Today Show Summer Concert Series continued this morning with the “Songs of Summer” show, including performances by Katy Perry, the Pussycat Dolls, and Jesse McCartney.

Katy Perry kissed a girl, but her Christian parents think it’s ‘disgusting’

Katy Perry might be enjoying the kind of international success that most parents could dream about for their children. But it seems that while Katy’s parents think she has an ‘angelic’ voice they consider what she’s singing about disgusting.

Katy’s parents, both evangelical Christian preachers, say they are deeply ashamed of the star for ‘promoting a sin’. And her mother, Mary Hudson, declared: ‘I hate the song. It clearly promotes homosexuality and its message is shameful and disgusting.

‘Katy knows how I feel. We are a very outspoken family and she knows how disappointed her father and I are. I can’t even listen to that song. The first time I heard it I was in total shock. When it comes on the radio I bow my head and pray.’

Mary Hudson added that not only does she hate the song, she’s not impressed with her daughter’s conduct either.

She said: ‘Katy is our daughter and we love her but we strongly disagree with how she is conducting herself at the moment.

‘We cannot cut her out of our lives as she is our child but she knows we disagree strongly with what she is doing and the message she is promoting regarding homosexuality which the Bible clearly states is a sin.

‘But the Bible also promotes understanding and forgiveness, which I keep reminding myself.

‘Katy is not a homosexual but I fear she has been led astray by the Hollywood crowd. I pray all the time that God will work through her and help her find salvation.’

Of Katy’s outfits, her mother said: ‘Some are too revealing and her father has had words with her about it. Like any child she is going through a period of rebellion.’

Most children going through something that could be dismissed as a ‘period of rebellion’ would probably do so in their teens, not in their twenties, but Katy is possibly just a late bloomer. They are adding fuel to the fire by calling her ‘shameful and disgusting’, telling the world they are disappointed and hate her song, and that they think their daughter is a sinner who dresses like a slut. This probably isn’t going to go far to heal the family rift, which Katy has acknowledged in the past.

I haven’t heard all of Katy’s album, but her mother might have softened this a little by saying that she liked other songs on the album, or kept Katy’s dress sense out of it. It just seems to me that Katy’s parents should value their relationship with their daughter more than defending their Christianity.

Katy released a Christian gospel album in 2001 under her name Katy Hudson (Perry is her mother’s maiden name) which was unsuccessful. She was spotted by a music producer and moved to L.A.

Note by Celebitchy: Can someone please explain to me why there is not one scene of girls kissing in that “I Kissed a Girl” video by Perry? I’ve watched it a couple times looking for women to make out and nothing happens. Is this because of her Christian parents? It seems like a major oversight in the video.
