This weekend was a big one for house parties, launch parties and premieres, but celebs still managed to find time for charity! Jada Pinkett Smith, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Priestley, Wilmer Valderrama and Melina Kanakaredes were just a few of the stars attending the 15th Annual Dream Halloween by the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation in Santa Monica this weekend.

I really think New Media needs some Old thinking to put soulfulness and magic into their mix, while Old media needs spectacular denial free new ideas to cut through the ever growing clutter. Denial is the key word. The Old Media guys tend to be so engrained in the way it's always worked...new media guys often reject some of the old values that may be unfashionable in the board room, but enlighten and satisfy consumers. Hotels are like that. Some "modern hotels" lack character. Some old hotels, are...old and ratty. But the Old Hotel with all the modern conveniences and charm...or the new hotel that has character and vibe—-that's the magic combination. Old Media integrating new ideas...or new media integrating (the good) old ideas—-That's the plan.

How did openly gay and newly married Ellen DeGeneres get Jonny Lee Miller to strip off pieces of clothing and show off his sexy tattoos? She paid him. Actually, she donated $1,000 to a breast cancer charity for every tattoo Jonny flashed on her show Monday.
Miller showed off six tattoos on his wrists, arms, stomach and left shoulder before covering up.

Ellen ended up shelling out $7,000 to get the star of Eli Stone to show some skin on television. I can’t wait until the video becomes available later this week. Jonny has lost some of sex appeal to me over the recent years. His new role on Eli Stone, while thought provoking and warm and fuzzy feeling..has none of the old “Hackers” or “Trainspotting” edge or cool. The Chicago Tribune just unveiled a redesign, which seems like a good occasion for a big old memo from Lee Abrams. High five! All ellipses are in the original text, people:

Ceren is due with the couple’s first child in the fall. Lee has a son from a previous relationship — famously named Pilot Inspektor.
Calls to Lee’s rep were not returned.
I’d forgotten that Lee was the man who fathered Pilot Inspektor. That name is right up there with Moxie Crimefighter! I can’t wait to see what this new kid will be named. "My Blackberry is hooked up to my heart with wires, and to my testicles. I'm on Amazon all the time, and when my [book sale] numbers go down, I get palpitations. When they go up, I get an erection." So began a very therapeutic evening at the New York Public Library with cantankerous author and "cultural critic" Lee Siegel. These days, Lee is critiquing the Internet and its "thuggish anonymity" with his book Against the Machine: Being Human in the Age of the Electronic Mob. In conversation with him was Heidi Julavits, a fun-looking intellectual blonde and editor of literary magazine The Believer, tweedy novelist and large-bearded writer Nicholson Baker, and the NYPL's Paul Holdengraber, who had the required German accent. They were very patient people, and by the end of the evening, all would appear thoroughly exasperated with him.
First of all, I walked in late and thought I was in the wrong place, because names of German philosophers were being bandied about, someone named Schivelbusch. The conversation quickly moved to art movements: Cubism, pointillism. Then, a Harvard-dapper guy in a jacket announced, "Steve Jobs is our Picasso, alas, and Microsoft is doing the work of relativity... Jobs's sole interest in culture is making money." It was Lee Siegel. I was in the right place.
Siegel has written for Slate and The New Republic. It was when he got a culture blog on the New Republic website when things started to go sour: anonymous commenters ganged up on him, responding to his columns by calling him everything from an "assclown" to an "asshole" to a "shithead" to finally, a "pedophile." Oh noes!
Sprezzatura, Siegel's very own anonymous Internet identity, was born. He railed against the commenters on his own blog as Sprezzatura (you can tell he's so pleased with himself for picking such a clever handle) before getting caught and temporarily suspended. And he isn't sorry!
"The New Republic said, "This is our new policy, we're losing money, the magazine's on the block... I was writing for this magazine for ten years, and all of a sudden, the terms had changed!" he exclaimed, raising his voice.
"Assclown is a really funny word, though" said the bearded one, Nicholson Baker, quietly.
As for Slate? "I wrote for Slate for the money," Siegel sniffed. "I couldn't wait to stop writing for Slate. Everything was quick, and everything was cute... there was hardly any time for reflection." Sounds... familiar.
Holdengraber posited that the Internet is both "a curse and a delight," and that Siegel's book is mainly about online culture as a curse: Siegel believes we are all isolated and disconnected, and the internet gives the false illusion of community. It's the first medium to serve the "isolated asocial elevated individual," as Siegel says in his book.
And he's right in that assertion. It is depressing being online all day. Anonymity can and does bring out the worst in people. Snide emails calling you a "white trash cunt and the worst writer in the history of this website" (for example!) will most definitely leave you rattled, wondering what the hell you're doing and why. In all these things, Siegel is right.
However, in the future, everybody will be called an assclown on their blog.

Despite the general consensus that Kimora Lee Simmons can be nutty at times (just one of the many side effects experienced by those possessing "fabulosity," anal discharge has also been known to occur), she and boyfriend, Djimon Hounsou seem to really be making this relationship work. Page Six is reporting that Kimora Lee has been trying to conceive with boyfriend, Hounsou, and has been successful in doing so.
"She's pregnant," the source said simply. This will be child number three for her, as she already has two children by her ex, rap mogul, Russell Simmons. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that a pregnant Kimora Lee is exponentially more likely to be involved in some sort of wacky gossip item than one that isn't, so I'm looking forward to the next nine months.

Page Six reports that Kimora Lee Simmons is Baby Phat for real! After wanting a baby for the last few years, Kimora has decided to take the plunge for kid number three with boyfriend Djimon Housou.
The demanding diva has been trying for a child with her lover, Djimon Hounsou, and sources say the two have finally made magic. “She’s pregnant,” a source told us. A rep for Simmons couldn’t get a hold of her client for five days.
Sounds like she wasn’t quite ready to announce the new mini-Kimi. Kimora already has two incredibly spoiled daughters, Ming and Aoki, by ex-husband Russell Simmons.
When Times reporter Jennifer 8. Lee worked out of the Washington, DC bureau, she became famous for hosting a blizzard of parties that upended the beltway social scene and no doubt required a tremendous supply of energy on Lee's part. The writer put no less work into her appearance on Comedy Central's Colbert Report to promote her book on Chinese food. To prepare for the five-minute appearance with tricky, tongue-in-cheek host Stephen Colbert, Lee consulted with at least four buddies -- Daily Show writer Rachel Axler, Lee friend "Dana," an unnamed Random House editor and Lee friend "Alexis." Their overwhelming advice? Don't try to be funny, and for the most part Lee didn't. But she did study some talking points, presented along with video of her on the show after the jump.
My friend Alexis (a huge Colbert fan) sent me an e-mail predicting how Colbert might respond to my argument that Chinese food is more American than apple pie given how much we eat apple pie versus Chinese food, and how I should recover from that.
Colbert : "I eat apple pie every morning - with a jack and coke - and a bald eagle egg omlette."
Jenny: Well, there are exceptions - and you are clearly an exceptional American - for most would say Chinese food.
Other things he might do:
* Introduce the idea that the Chinese are taking over the world, starting with the restaurants. ("If that happens, I'm hedged. I speak Chinese, what about you?" or "That might happen. I suggest that your kids learn to speak Chinese. My mom's a tutor.")
* Bring up any comment about the fact that fortune cookies were copied from the Japanese by the Chinese ("We don't feel so bad about it, they've been copying us for centuries.").
* Of course, ask about the middle number as initial. ("The Chinese love the number 8. The Beijing Olympics are starting at 8 p.m. on August 8, 2008. They really wanted this Olympics.")
Lee's friend was right about the apple pie thing. All the studying seemed to leave Lee looking just a tad over-prepared and stiff, but it's hard to fault her when she kept the discussion focused on her book and scored the requisite-but-never-guarnteed book plug from the host at the end.

KIMORA Lee Simmons is a nonsinging diva. That’s why she has a contract rider, like the ones used on concert tours, for personal appearances. “She demands that someone stand by and refill her champagne glass whenever it gets below one inch, that the water is Fiji only and that the place provide fans that blow on her in case it gets hot,” said an insider. Simmons’ rep said, “She does only drink Fiji water but these reports are completely false and inaccurate.”
I think Kimora is worse than Kevin Federline in terms of douchyness. They both have done absolutely nothing besides using their naughty bits to achieve fame, but Kimora seems to think she’s entitled to some special treatment. Just try to watch this clip and not want to punch her in the face.
I swear if that was my boss I would literally take a shit in a bag, mix it with granola and wheat, bake it at 350 degress for 15-20 minutes and offer it to her. You know, because she’s a little flustered and cranky.

In a clip posted to YouTube yesterday, creepy church MC David Miscavige said Scientology planned to "smart bomb" and "booby trap" the profession of psychiatry with a "diabolical" media campaign. Simmons' role? Indoctrinate underaged African American boys into Scientology by funneling booklets into inner-citiy neighborhoods on both coasts. At least, that's how Miscavige presents it, but then he also claims to have planted stories in virtually every newspaper and TV network, from the New York Times to Fox News. Videos after the jump.
