Oscar winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis, renowned for his personal version of “method acting,” is back at it again on the set of his latest film. This time, the NY Daily News says he is imprisoned in Guido Contini, the skirt-chasing director in the movie musical “Nine.” Even when the camera stops rolling, the Irish actor continues to speak with an Italian accent to Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz and anyone else on the British set. “He’s always waving his arms and telling the chef to whip up some pasta,” laughs a spy.
This is actually pretty mild stuff for Daniel. His preparation, is now notorious, for previous roles. He crudely tattooed his hands and trained as a real fighter, twice a day, seven days a week, for nearly three years, for The Boxer (1997). His trainer at the time, former world champion Barry McGuigan, remarked that he could have turned professional.
For In The Name of the Father (1993), he slept in an abandoned jail and ate only prison rations. For The Crucible (1996), he lived in the film set’s replica village without electricity or running water and built his character’s house with 17th-century tools. For Michael Mann’s The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Day-Lewis prepared for the role of James Fenimore Cooper’s 18th-century hero Hawkeye by living off the land for six months, learning how to hunt, fish and skin animals.
He also decided he needed to stay in character for his role as psychotic Daniel Plainview for the movie, There Will Be Blood. With his family in tow for the shooting of the movie, things got strange when he came home for work. His wife Rebecca Miller, the daughter of playwright Arthur Miller and their two children had to live with “Plainview” for quite a while. Daniel, also found it hard to come out of character after the film was finished.
He told Film & Cinema at the time:
“Well, absurd as it might seem, when you’ve been someone else for that amount of time, it’s even more absurd when it’s all over. “Then the joke is on all of us, because once a curiosity is unleashed you can’t just tie it up again. It does take time to let go. There is no great part of you that wants to stop doing that work, and no matter how much you’re begging for it to stop you need someone to put a restraining order on it.”

Juliette Lewis, a formerly promising actress turned rocker, poses on the red carpet outside Prive in Vegas where she was celebrating her 35th birthday this weekend.
Fierce!
Seriously, though, we miss her in movies. Kalifornia, anyone?
Looks like Leona Lewis' alleged
Well, it certainly didn't take Leona Lewis long to make an impact on the American pop charts - yesterday, she became the first British pop singer to top the Billboard Hot 100 since 1987!
After several weeks' worth of publicity (including a memorable Oprah appearance), "Bleeding Love" came in at #1 this week. Like many recent hot-selling singles, "Bleeding Love" owes a lot of its success to iTunes, where it had been selling like crazy for several weeks.
"Bleeding Love"'s triumph makes Leona the first British woman to top the American charts since 1987, when Kim Wilde went number-one with her cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On". The twenty-two-year-old Leona was barely even one back then!
Of course, chart success is hardly news to Leona, who spent most of last year setting sales records worldwide with "Bleeding Love". The big question now, of course, is whether she'll be able to sustain her run when her debut album Spirit comes out on April 8th - but after the way "Bleeding Love" sold, we may have an answer already!
Are you excited for Spirit?

At this year's version of the Oscars, the striking-writers-approved Screen Actors Guild Awards, winner Tina Fey said she had the acting skills of a "hat rack," Tom Cruise gave a surprisingly non-creepy speech and Best Actor Daniel Day Lewis stole the show with some kind words for Heath Ledger, to whom Lewis dedicated his Best Actor Award. Video of Lewis' words for Heath, along with the winner of SAG's "Biggest Jerk" award, after the jump.
