Tom and Katie hit the town last night with adorable little Suri (who wasn't giving us any winks this time) and Tom's Tropic Thunder co-star and director, Ben Stiller!
Now, Ben used to do an amazing imitation of Tom back in the day, and I think it's a great testament to Tom's personality that instead of being insulted, he's honored by it! Now it seems the pair have even become friends!
Now, I haven't seen it yet, but I'm dying to see Tom's cameo as a studio exec in Tropic Thunder. I hear he steals the whole show!

Although Suri definitely steals the show whenever she's around!

TomKat weren't the only celebs at the Tropic Thunder premiere last night (which we hear is hysterical), actor/director Ben Siller, Robert Downey, Jr., who apparently steals the show, Jack Black (with what looks like a jacket painted with bolts of lightning!), and Matthew McConaughey, who replaced Owen Wilson in an uncredited cameo also showed up to walk the red carpet!
This time, luckily, Matty left Levi at home, but check out all the stars at the Tropic after party at Crown Bar!

I can't wait to see this movie! Think it'll be funnier than Pineapple Express?

Twenty-one disability groups are hot and bothered over Ben Stiller’s new film “Tropic Thunder,” after promotional posters for the film, and some of the dialog slam down the R bomb: retard.
“It’s sort of edgy territory, but we felt that as long as the focus was on the actors who were trying to do something to be taken seriously that’s going too far or wrong, that was where the humor would come from,” Stiller said. “[The joke is on] actors reaching for roles in terms of hopefully winning awards.”
When Stiller said that, I don’t think he entirely realized that the people he is talking to are mentally disabled. Unless he said this while tossing out apples, or included the words “rainbow” or “hugs time,” his message was never going to get through. I say give them a couple of tickets and let them laugh it off. Probably one of the first things they’re going to say as they’re walking out the theater is going to be “Jesus, what a bunch of retards.”

Ben Stiller’s new film with Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr., ‘Tropic Thunder’ is set to hit theatres in mid August, The action comedy is about a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to do a big-budget war movie but are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. Jack Black recently did an interview with Blender magazine discussing his role in the film. In the movie, 28-year-old actor plays a character who is forced to go through with withdrawal, and so, naturally, the conversation turned to Black’s own drug use.
On smoking marijuana:
There is an occasional celebratory jay, but it’s not a wake-and-bake scenario anymore at all. And no cigarettes. To help stop, I took Wellbutrin for two years, and then I stopped the Wellbutrin before Tropic Thunder. They say you’ve got to be careful quitting Wellbutrin because some people have withdrawal symptoms. And I was like, “Good! That’s the movie. That’s what I need! Withdrawal symptoms!” I didn’t have shakes and crazy quakes–it feels like your brain is sucking in on itself, like there’s a small black hole in the center of your brain galaxy. But it only lasted for a couple of weeks, and then I was back to normal.
On Black’s early exposure to hard drugs:
In ninth grade, I did acid and cocaine. I wanted desperately to be an American badass. There’s something so romantic, when you’re a kid, about being a criminal. You want to belong to the tough-guy club. Running from the cops. Hiding in the bushes. Making schemes and plans to get it over on the Man.
On heroin:
Somebody gave me a small amount of it in an envelope and I kept it for months. I didn’t want to use it, but I didn’t want to throw it away, either, because I was always curious about it.My girlfriend at the time was there, and I snorted it, but she didn’t know I did it. It didn’t agree with me. I couldn’t really feel my legs, and my heart felt like it was slowing down too much. I thought, Oh, my God, it’s just going to shut me down. I’m going to die. So I told my girlfriend, “I’m going to take a walk.” I went down to the 7-Eleven at the bottom of the hill, and I had this strange sensation that my legs were pumping, but the feet were just sort of lifeless stumps. I did a little shopping and then walked back up the hill and survived. And never did it again.
On withdrawal:
I’ve never had to detox.
In other Jack Black news the irreverent rock duo Tenacious D, have also begun work on a new album — just don’t hold your breath waiting for it.
The project marks the follow-up to the 2006 film project “The Pick of Destiny,” which bombed at the box office.
“We probably only have one to one and a half songs right now, and we probably need 12 to 15,” Black’s bandmate Kyle Gass told Billboard.com. “It might take the rest of our lives, but I think it’ll be worth waiting for.”

High profile Hollywood stars are taking sides with Jack Nicholson and Ben Stiller now pitted against Tom Hanks in the battle between the two leading acting unions.
While actors are threatening walkouts at the end of June (08) if talks between the unions and major film studios fail to resolve a dispute over pay and conditions; Hanks recently signed an e-mail petition urging members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) to accept a “solid deal” offered by studio bosses.
Now fellow Hollywood stars Stiller and Nicholson are encouraging the 120,000-member AFTRA union to turn down the proposal after siding with rival union, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), whose members are negotiating a separate contract.
The current contract for both unions will expire on Monday June 30th. Among negotiating points for both unions are daily minimum compensation for actors and DVD and Internet fees.
AFTRA bosses have warned that turning down their proposed deal with the studios could cause a strike similar to the The Writers Guild of America strike, which brought Hollywood to a standstill from November (07) until February (08), and cost the California economy a projected 37,700 jobs and $2.1 billion (£1 billion) in lost output, according to reports.
Stiller and Nicholson are set to appear in print ads on Thursday (tomorrow) that urge union members to reject the proposal, siding instead with SAG, which claims the contract would set a precedent that could potentially harm their negotiating power with movie studio bosses.
The ad - signed by the pair - states: “We are not finished… We believe there are issues that are at the heart of every actor’s career that remain unresolved by AFTRA.”

Do you think Ben Stiller's Mom looks at his wife and is like "shit, I used to be that young"? She should kidnap some virgins and bathe in their blood! I saw it in a movie. Anyway, Ben Stiller went on "Ellen" the other day and told Owen Wilson's lookalike that Owen's doing fine.
"He's doing really well," Stiller, 41, tells Ellen DeGeneres on her show Friday."I sort of like to protect his privacy, 'cause I feel like it's his own thing," says Stiller. "But he's a really good friend of mine. He's an incredible guy and I wish him as everybody does, all the best."
"I know that he'll put his life together," the elder Stiller, who also costarred with Wilson in 2001's Zoolander, told PEOPLE. He added that his son has been "very close to Owen for most of their careers," and that Ben had been an "advocate" in "intervention and all that stuff."So there WAS a drug issue involved. Way to out Owen as a junkie, Mr. Stiller. Old Hollywood people are great because they don't give a f*ck. They will tell you what's what. They're character actors and they can always get roles as grizzled grandparents or crazy old ladies. Or do dinner theatre in Florida. Everyone wants to see George Costanza's Dad.

The incident that is said to have triggered Owen Wilson’s suicide attempt was a fight with a close friend after he failed to deliver promised material for a comedy project. It was reported that Wilson pulled out of the comedy he was involved in with good friend Ben Stiller after he was hospitalized, but that might not have been the case. Variety reported that the decision for Stiller not to be involved after his illness was “mutual,” but The National Enquirer says that Stiller and Steven Spielberg, who were directing and producing the film, decided they needed to fire Wilson and arranged to have the news delivered to him in his hospital bed.
The film had been shooting for six weeks at that point, according to People, so they probably couldn’t afford to wait any longer. There were millions at stake and Owen was a major liability:
It’s hush-hush and strictly confidential, but tragic comedy star Owen Wilson didn’t “quit” his movie after that drug-fueled suicide bid - my spy reveals he was actually fired by pal Ben Stiller and mogul Steven Spielberg… although both agonized endlessly over how to deliver the blow without sending him over the edge! Even as Wilson was rushed to Cedars-Sinai, director Stiller and producer Spielberg - under the gun because “Tropic Thunger” rolls next month - huddled desperately, debating two major points: (1) Could Wilson recover fast enough to handle the grueling shoot; and (2) would insurers of the multimillion Dreamworks flick underwrite a drug-taker/suicide risk?
“Ben was literally sick about making a decision to fire his good friend,” said an insider - but after hours of deliberation, Stiller and Spielberg concluded Owen had to go! But how to soften the blow? Incredibly, Plan A was to phone Wilson at the hospital and ax him on his bed of pain… gently of course! “Ben proposed calling directly so Owen wouldn’t hear the news from the press or a flunky,” said the insider. “But after family members told them Owen was not in a good state of mind, they realized the direct approach was far too stressful.” Rather than order studio lawyers to contact Wilson’s people, however, Stiller and Spielberg conferenced them personally to deliver the bombshell that Owen was goin’!
[From The National Enquirer, print edition, Mike Walker’s column, September 24, 2007]
So instead of having their people contact Owen’s people, Stiller and Spielberg contacted Owen’s people and by eliminating one level of detachment from the situation were able to relieve some of their guilt. At least they considered contacting Owen directly, and it sounds like they were told not to do it that way. Hopefully Owen’s people broke it to him once he was feeling a little better and was able to handle the news.
There’s a really nasty article in this week’s Star Magazine about how Owen must not have really tried to cut his wrists because a recent picture, not the ones from the beach, showed no scars on his right wrist. Photos taken recently on Malibu beach do reveal scars on his left wrist, showing that the suicide attempt did involve some cutting on Owen’s part.
The article is titled “Was it All a Hoax?” and circles a picture of Owen’s right scarless wrist with an arrow pointing to it:
The truth about what happened to Owen Wilson on Aug. 26 has now become a mystery that seems to be getting deeper by the day. While it’s been reported that The Wedding Crashers star sliced his wrists and took drugs in a desperate suicide bid, Star has learned that the entire incident may be cloaked in a cover-up that began right after Owen was found bleeding at his Santa Monica home.
“I’ve seen many patients who have attempted suicide by slashing their wrists, and even weeks later there are red marks and scarring,” says Louis Mueller, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist based near Tampa, who has not treated the actor but has studied photos of him taken shortly after his release from the hospital. “These photos do not computer with attempted suicide by slashing of the wrists.”
[From Star Magazine, print edition, September 24, 2007]
The article goes on to say that 911 was not called until an hour after Owen’s brother Luke found him, and brings up the fact that a criminal attorney was called to visit Wilson when he was at the hospital. They then put even more emphasis on the pictures, with another quote from that random psychologist.
Star is grasping at straws. Owen’s other wrist shows a clear scar, which is because he’s probably right-handed and used that hand to cut his left wrist without getting to the other one. Maybe the reports were incorrect that both wrists were slashed, but it’s not some big conspiracy and Star should have passed up that story instead of needlessly speculating about it. The guy needs help, not more grief.
Owen Wilson will forever be known as the celebrity who tried to take his own life, but he has also become a much-needed symbol of the very hidden and deep pain of depression. As I mentioned earlier, Owen shows us that anyone can suffer from mental illness, and that there is no shame in getting help before its too late. While the rest of us yearn for fame and wealth, we may be better off just as we are. Rich celebrities aren’t immune from problems any more than the rest of us, and they’re certainly subject to a lot more nasty speculation about their personal lives.
Owen Wilson is shown in the header image on Labor Day paying a visit to his brother Luke Wilson. Thanks to Splash News for the pic.
We were all shocked to hear about the tragic suicide attempt made by Owen Wilson this past Sunday. And now that he’s had some time to get perspective, the You Me And Dupree actor has decided to step away from acting as he works towards recovery.
The “Butterscotch Stallion” actor has announced that he will not be filming his role in the upcoming Ben Stiller film Tropic Thunder. The DreamWorks comedy has been filming for six weeks in Hawaii, and Wilson was due on the set in two or three weeks to film his scenes.

Ben Stiller is shooting a new movie in Hawaii called Tropic Thunder - it's a war comedy, which sounds HILARIOUS - and that's why he's wearing those weird hooks. So, it'd be fine if the kid wasn't there, but don't you think Stiller almost stroking the cheek of a toddler (with his huge hook!) is a bit more creepy than cute?
By the way, Ben's ripped! I thought funnymen were just supposed to be, uh, funny?
