Everyone knows it's the judges' MO on American Idol, to make fun of the contestants in their open audition cattle calls that they start out with each season. It's sometimes funny (mostly boring and unwatchable, in my opinion), but is it too cruel?
Poor Paula Goodspeed believed in herself and believed AI could make her famous but is it fair or ethical to trick sometimes naive souls into making fools of themselves on national television?
William Hung turned his comedic audition into a real career by embracing the comedy of his act (though one still wonders still if he grasps the real reason he's found fame), but Paula Goodspeed, who committed suicide in front of Idol judge Paula Abdul's house on Wednesday, apparently suffered greatly after what she must have felt was public humiliation, broadcast to the entire country.
Simon Cowell, AI judge and the show's creator, mocked Goodspeed's braces during her audition, saying, "I don't think any artist on earth could sing with that much metal in her mouth." Goodspeed later blogged about the cruelty on her MySpace page, saying it was difficult to deal with the "haters" who made fun of her.

Could season 8 of American Idol be Paula Abdul's last? Well according to OK! magazine Paula is planning her exit.
According to a source close to the reality judge, Paula, 45, who has been with the show for seven years, is developing new TV projects and is hoping to “transition” out of the Fox hit.
With her fellow judge, Randy Jackson, telling friends that American Idol has lost its magic, another Paula insider explains, “She knows that every season could be her last. Now she’s got a new secret venture that she’s really excited about.”
After years of wanting Paula off the show, I would now miss her if she was gone because you never know what she is going to bring the Judges' table. Now when it comes to Randy Jackson and the new chick, if they left I wouldn't care. Dog.
BTW I am not sure if OK! got the information before the incident happened with Paula's fan, but I think that would make her want to leave more than she alredy did.

The vehicle was registered to a Paula Goodspeed, 30, a former American Idol contestant and self professed “huge” fan of Paula Abdul’s.The license plate was ABL LV and a photo of Paula hung from the rearview mirror.
So far, police have not confirmed the identity of the woman.
LAPD officer April Harding confirms, “This has been ruled an apparent suicide and the coroner’s office is now investigating. The body was found around 6 p.m. Tuesday.”
Abdul was not home at the time of the discovery, but she is, of course, affected by the news. She released the following statement:
“I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday. My heart and prayers go out to her family.”
Goodspeed’s audition was featured on the hit show American Idol. Simon was practically repulsed by the woman and made fun of her braces. On the show, Goodspeed told AI how much she loved Paula,
“I really like Paula Abdul a lot. She’s really cool. I’m a really big fan, and I made life-sized drawings of Paula. I’ve been drawing since I was a little kid, and my first drawing was of Paula.”
Then she sang her song, and it was bad. She chose Proud Mary, and the judges did not hide their disgust.
Randy Jackson commented, “It was terrible, what was that?” Simon Cowell poked, “I don’t know how you can sing with all that metal in your mouth.”
And the woman’s idol, Abdul, ended it with, “Speechless, don’t know what to say.”

A woman, who was according to her mom is a big fan of Paula Abdul's was found dead of a suspected overdose near Paula Abdul's house yesterday according to KTTV. The woman's mother reported her missing and told the police that she could most likely be found near Paula Abdul's house.
Paula Abdul was not home at the time because she filming the Hollywood round of auditions for American Idol. Say what you want about Paula, but she has a big heart and this news is really going to affect her.

Fox announced today that American Idol will be back with its new Judge on January 13th with a 2 day, 4 hour premiere. They also announced that Fringe will stay on Tuesdays, House is moving to Mondays and Bones goes to Thursdays. Joss Whedon's Dollhouse premieres the day before Valentine's Day, but I don't think this show will get the love it needs.

Simon Cowell and Terri Seymour are no longer dating according to Daily Mirror.
She has now told friends: “We’ve split up. It’s very sad but we decided to go our separate ways. It just wasn’t working out between us.
“There’s no one else involved and we want to remain friends.”
I doubt Simon will be single for long.

Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were murdered today and her sister's 7 year old son is missing. According to WLS the police are searching for her brother-in-law as a possible suspect.
Police have confirmed Hudson's mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, 57, is one of the deceased. The other victim has been identified as Jennifer Hudson's brother, Jason S. Hudson, 29.
The home where the bodies were discovered aruond 3 p.m. Friday is at 7019 S. Yale in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. Property records indicate the home belongs to Donerson.
A search is underway for a young boy who is missing from the home. Jennifer Hudson's 7-year-old nephew, Julian King, has been missing since Friday morning, according to Area 2 Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson.
Patterson said neighbors reported hearing shots between 8 and 9 a.m.
Patterson said a family member found the body of Donerson in the living room Friday afternoon and left the house to call police. When authorities arrived, they found Jason Hudson in a bedroom.
Patterson said there was no sign of forced
The Chicago Tribune is reporting thata suspect is in custody, but her nephew is still missing. Hopefully he will be found soon and be OK as OK as he can be.
Jennifer Hudson was in Tampa at the time and is traveling back to Chicago. My prayers are with her.

She’s coming into her own as a bona fide celebrity force to be reckoned with, and last night Emma Roberts was sizzling at the Whitney Museum of American Art Gala.

Contestants on American Idol clearly know what they’re getting into when they sign up for the show. They know they’re going to be put through the ringer, tested, and probably mocked on national television. It’s definitely a show that not everyone is cut out for – not just in terms of talent but also in terms of the thick skin needed to get through the experience.
Unfortunately former season one contestant Nikki McKibbin didn’t seem have the advantage of having seen the show like the contestants on subsequent seasons. McKibbin says the competition had a lasting negative effect on her which led to depression and drug abuse.
American Idol alum Nikki McKibbin, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, has revealed Simon Cowell led her on a downward spiral.
“I came out of Idol with a lack of self-confidence,” McKibbin tells the new issue of Us Weekly. “I think I had my first solo in school when I was 5, and I got more as I got older: That’s the biggest compliment in choir. I had never been told I wasn’t good enough. Having to hear it for so many weeks from Simon Cowell killed me inside. I couldn’t get the s–t he had said to me out of my head.”
She continued: “It drove me deeper into my depression. I wouldn’t say that this was Simon’s fault. It just added to the addict that I already was.” Cowell compared one of her performances to Adam Sandler’s tone deaf character in The Wedding Singer. “We were heavily chaperoned, but I would buy vodka and sneak it into the refrigerator on the bottom floor,” McKibbin tells Us. “If I wasn’t too exhausted, I’d have one or two drinks.”
The season one contestant finished third behind Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson.

Nikki recently sobered up on another reality show - of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. So apparently there’s one show to break people and another to put them back together? Since Nikki was on the first season of the show she hadn’t witnessed Simon’s behavior like most of us have since then. I’m guessing she was in some way informed that he was harsh and critical, but didn’t realize it’d be so bad. It’s good she says that Simon’s not at fault, but bullying can have an effect on both children and adults. Just because he’s a grownup doesn’t make it alright for him to act like an ass – it makes it less so. I think a lot of people would have a hard time dealing with him and keeping their self esteem in tack.

American Idol (season 1) bottom feeder, Nikki McKibbin, is now saying that snarky Simon Cowell pushed her into the downward spiral that landed her on a season of Celebrity Rehab (The word "celebrity" used loosely here).
She says that she departed from the show in her third place position "lacking self-confidence."
Because she was selected for solos in choir, Nikki found it difficult to hear that she wasn't good enough. And, while she does not blame Cowell for her addiction, she says that his nasty comments added to the "addict she already was."
She confesses that she used to sneak booze into the AI dorms and nightcap with a drink or two.
Naturally, the booze only exacerbated her depression, plunging her to depths that found her with a stint in a psych ward and an eternal Z-list career on reality TV.

Neither Hillary Clinton nor Sarah Palin could put enough cracks in the glass ceiling for Paula Abdul. Nigel Lythgoe, former “American Idol” executive producer, revealed recently that there is a bit of a disparity between Paula’s salary for her work as a judge on the hit TV show, and Simon Cowell’s for the same job.
“American Idol” former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe recently revealed that Simon Cowell is earning $36 million a year from the show.
It’s not news that Cowell makes some serious coin — he’s been ranked in Forbes — but the approximately $22,000 per minute (according to Lythgoe’s calculations) that Cowell earns has fellow “Idol” judge Paula Abdul especially angry. Rumors put Abdul’s salary at closer to $5 to $8 million per season.

Paula Abdul is not the most stable person, and those that know her are worried that this could cause some problems. Abdul knew Cowell was making more than her, but the gap was a lot more than anyone would have guessed. A source that works with the show says that Paula already feels underappreciated, especially after they’ve brought in another female judge to “even out” the panel. People around her are pretty sure they’re going to be the one paying for it, too.
“If you thought she had reason to run late to the set now, imagine what the future may hold. I kind of feel for the assistants who are going to be made responsible for getting her on set on time. It’s always a challenge, but now? I don’t want to think about it.”

No mention was made of Randy Jackson’s salary. I’m guessing it’s somewhere between Simon’s and Paula’s, but closer to Paula’s. Lythgoe also didn’t say anything about new judge Kara DioGuardi’s salary, either, but if Abdul’s is only $5 to $8 million, she’s a lot closer to DioGuardi than Cowell.
Get ready for the Abdul-crazy to be even crazier this year.

Simon Cowell makes a lot more from American Idol than Paula Abdul like more than 5X according to Scoop. Simon reportedly makes $36 and Paula Abdul is to make between $5-8 million. And you know she is not going to like it, especially when she finds out just how much more he makes.
“Paula knew that Simon was getting paid more, but she never imagined it was this much more,” says a source who works with Abdul. “This could really put her in a bad way.”
“She has a lot of concerns with feeling appreciated," says the source. "First, they bring in another judge (Kara DioGuardi) and now it’s ridiculously obvious that she’s getting pennies compared to Simon. If you thought she had reason to run late to the set now, imagine what the future may hold. I kind of feel for the assistants who are going to be made responsible for getting her on set on time. It’s always a challenge, but now? I don’t want to think about it.”
As for why there’s such a salary discrepancy, Lythgoe told an Australian newspaper it’s because “it is believed (Cowell) brings more to the table.”
In Simon's defense he is the show and he is the one Judge I can't live without. That and he also is one of the producers of the show. I think he is worth getting more than her, but I don't think anyone needs a $36 million salary.
I hate to be Simon when he has to do salary negotiations with her!

People posted the first excerpts of their exclusive interview with Clay Aiken telling the world that "Yes, I'm Gay."
"It was the first decision I made as a father," Aiken, 29, tells the upcoming issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. "I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn't raised that way, and I'm not going to raise a child to do that."
Aiken says he expects the news may overwhelm some of his fans. "Whether it be having a child out of wedlock, or whether it be simply being a homosexual, it's going to be a lot," said Aiken, who returned to Broadway last week as Sir Robin in Monty Python's Spamalot.
He adds that he hopes his fans "know that I've never intended to lie to anybody at all. … But if they leave, I don't want them to leave hating me."
Hopefully they won't leave him because that would be a really stupid reason to desert him and they weren’t true Claymates in the first place.

The born-again Christian singer also reveals how he told his mother Faye he's gay four years ago. After dropping off his younger brother Brett, who was being deployed to Iraq, at Camp Lejeune, "I started crying in the car," Aiken remembers. "It was dark. I was sitting there, thinking to myself. I don't know why I started thinking about it … I just started bawling. She made me pull over the car and it just came out."
So what was his mom's reaction? "She started crying. She was obviously somewhat stunned. But she was very supportive and very comforting." Even now, Aiken admits, "She still struggles with things quite a bit, but she's come a long way."
Looks like the media was outing him way before he was outing himself. I really hope that his uptight Claymates don't desert him for being who he is. I know I am one Claymate who has no intentions of leaving him!!!

Clay Aiken is finally taking the Measure of a Man and saying This is the Night to tell the world (or People Magazine) that “Yes, I’m Gay!”
Good for him for coming out in his own way at his own time! Let’s hope people respect his decision, it will be interesting to see how some of his Claymates will react to the news.

Fox was close to firing the brand new Judge Kara DioGuardi before she even made it to air according to National Enquirer.
FOX execs felt the singer/songwriter/producer came off so "stiff and wooden" during auditions that they seriously considered firing her, an insider told The ENQUIRER."They said Kara was terrible and amateurish," the insider revealed. "They wanted to replace her."
But to save the embarrassment of admitting a bad hire, the execs decided to give Kara another chance - and now she's finally showing improvement.
FOX has hired speaking and talent coaches to work with Kara, says the source.
But it's ultimately up to Kara to "get it together."

I don't know, but looking at those pictures of her you could tell she wasn't going to add anything to American Idol. Guess I wasn't the only one who thought so. I personally don't think they need a fourth job, but what do I know I am just the person watching the show.

Constantine Maroulis, Taylor Hicks and Ace Young all got together to wish Taylor Hicks luck as he ends his stint in Grease on Broadway and hello to Ace Young who is joining the show. Not sure why Constantine was there, but probably heard press was going to be there.
