  Orlando Bloom has popped the big question to Miranda Kerr and she has accepted according to The Sunday Telegraph. Bloom and Kerr, who live together in New York, celebrated their engagement with a romantic getaway in Venice last week. The wedding is supposedly being planned around their work commitments and will take place in the middle of next year when both have a break. This news comes only weeks after the Australian super-model denied another rumor of wedding plans.

  The couple share many interests including yoga and clean-living ways. Kerr a Victoria’s Secret lingerie model, known for her wholesome lifestyle, will next year bring out a self-help book, Treasure Yourself, aimed at young girls. Kerr recently talked about her plan to one day leave the fashion world and have babies saying:

  “I’ve always wanted kids, so someday, eventually, yes, it will happen. My ideal situation would be to live on a farm in a solar-powered house with a hammock and a vegetable patch. When this is all over, that’s where I’ll be.”

  Orlando has signed on to star in Red Circle. It's a, wait for it, remake of a 1970 French film called Le Rouge Cercle. It's a crime thriller that will shoot in Hong Kong and Macau.   Actor Orlando Bloom recently went on a UNICEF-supported four-day journey to various sites in the western districts of Nepal.   Bloom visited the mountainous nation to help draw attention to the UN’s efforts to fight poverty and infant mortality there.  While most outsiders might feel strange in a remote and impoverished area of Nepal, particularly a movie star, Orlando Bloom seemed perfectly at ease.

  Some of the fun highlights of Orlando’s trip included:

  Women in Kalika village welcomed Mr. Bloom by smearing his forehead with red ‘tika’ and putting garlands of flowers around his neck.

  Orlando visited a school in the Himalayas, where he got involved in a friendly battle of balloons and bubbles.

  In Pokhara village, Mr. Bloom mingled with over three dozen blind girls and boys. He also played a small role in a mini-drama the children were recording that day for the UNICEF-supported radio program ‘Saathi Sanga Manka Kura’ (Chatting with My Best Friend).

  

  Orlando also got a chance to see some of the more serious sides of village life and the struggle to make life better:

  “Six years ago only 84 per cent of school-going age children were enrolled in schools,” he said. “Now every boy and girl goes to school. Previously only 25 per cent of the households were taking iodized salt [to prevent iodine deficiency disorders]. The figure now has increased to 38 per cent. Similarly women’s workload has decreased from 17 hours per day to 14 hours a day.”

  The members of a children’s club at a local school in the hills of Pumdi Bhumdi had a different success story to narrate to Mr. Bloom. As the children explained, they have been instrumental in promoting safe hygiene and sanitation practices in their village.

  Later, sitting cross-legged in the yard with children surrounding him, Mr. Bloom learned more about their studies, their ambitions and their world. “I may be disabled, and might need assistance from others for everything I do,” 10th-grader Sujan Dhakal told him. “Yet the world I see for myself is one where I can be of assistance to others and work for the betterment of my society and my country.”

  Heartthrob Orlando Bloom is the latest celebrity to lend support to UNICEF. Bloom visited the mountainous nation of Nepal to help draw attention to the UN’s efforts to fight poverty and infant mortality there. He spent four days in Nepal and toured schools and villages as well as met with blind and disabled children that are being assisted through UN programs:

  Accompanying Mr. Bloom on the trip were UNICEF Regional Director Dan Toole and UNICEF Representative in Nepal Gillian Mellsop. Besides touring UNICEF programmes, he visited Chitwan National Park and Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

  In Kalika village, Mr. Bloom’s forehead was smeared red with the ‘tika’ with which local women had welcomed him, and he wore garlands of flowers they had given him upon his arrival with the guests from UNICEF.

  “There was a time when we could not walk alone on that hillside, where the villagers used to throw their dead babies,” one resident told the visitors. “They said their spirits used to haunt the hills. Not any more. Over the years, with improved health, there are no dead babies being thrown over the ridge and no more spirits wandering these hillsides.”

  “Look at the comparative indicators of the last six years,” added village facilitator Chali Subedi. “Things have taken a turn for the better since the men and women got organized.”

  The drama dealt with the plight faced by girls in a hostel without a female warden. Mr. Bloom played the role of a guest who tries to offer the girls advice. “Talk about your problems,” he said, consulting the script provided by the children. “There’s no need to feel shy. It’s always good to talk about issues that concern you.”

  We haven’t heard much about Bloom since his minor car accident that injured a friend who was a passenger in his car in October of last year. That’s great that he’s getting involved with the UN and lending a hand.

  Bloom is also an active environmentalist and took a trip to Antarctica last year with his cousin to document the effects of global warming. His cousin, Sebastian Copeland, has a new book out with photos from their trip titled Antarctica: The Global Warning.

  Bloom starred in the play “In Celebration” in the West End of London this summer. It was met with mixed by mostly good reviews. Most say that Bloom was very good in it, but that the play, which was about a dysfunctional family, left a lot of unanswered questions and was either frustrating or heart-breaking depending on your perspective. According to IMDB, Bloom has no movies lined up at this point and due to the writer’s strike he may be waiting some time for a new role. It seems like a very good time for him to see the world and lend his support to some worthy causes.

But do YOU want to traipse over to Nepal which had a decades horrific civil war which killed 13,000 people and left people in abject poverty and starvation? I don't. I just want to eat some Easy Mac and watch "White Oleander" for the sixteenth time. I'm sorry, it's always on cable. Anyway, Orlando Bloom is the newest Unicef ambassador and he trekked to Nepal to tour UNICEF-supported programmes in early December.   Orlando Bloom is still being investigated for hit and run, and there is video clearly showing Bloom walking from the crash scene, leaving behind one of his passengers — who suffered a fractured neck.  Last weekend, Orlando was driving a Toyota Matrix, and crashed into a parked Porshe Cayanne on Vista Rd. in West Hollywood.

  Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the LAPD will submit the Orlando Bloom car crash case to the L.A. County D.A.’s office, and the D.A. will then decide whether to file felony hit and run charges against the actor.

  

  The video, shot by X17, shows paparazzi following Bloom, urging him to return, warning him that if he kept walking he could be prosecuted for hit and run. Bloom finally saw the light and returned to his car, the driver’s door still wide open and steam coming out of the engine.

  You see Bloom shaking an officer’s hand – and the cops never gave him a blood-alcohol test. 

  The investigation into the crash — where Bloom hit a parked Porsche and blamed the accident on an SUV he says cut him off — is ongoing.  He told police he was being chased by a paparazzo who suddenly changed lanes and cut him off.

  Bloom is being investigated for hit and run after he was filmed walking away from the accident that left two of his childhood friends injured.

  The accident occurred after Bloom and friends left an LA nightclub. Bloom claims a minivan cut him off, forcing him to crash into a parked Porsche. The result was fashion stylist Cher Coulter, who was in the back sear, suffering a fractured neck. His other passenger received cuts from her seatbelt.

  Ironically, as Coulter left the club and before getting in the car, she said to Orlando, “What, are you gonna leave me on the street?” After the crash that’s exactly what he did.

  As his passengers lie injured in the vehicle Orlando took off on foot. Paparazzi followed him pleading with him to return to the scene, which he did a short while after.

  Orlando has been interviewed by police and they are investigating whether or not to charge him with hit and run. They are also looking into the possibility of the minivan cutting him off.

  Bloom was not given a field sobriety test, which is odd because if you saw the video of him before the accident he was acting spacey and bizarre. According to TMZ, “A detective said that even if an officer saw “minor objective symptoms” of intoxication, it’s still a subjective judgment call.”

  X17 was on the scene with Orlando Bloom Thursday night, before, during and after the scary incident that allegedly left two women injured. Orlando was first spotted by X17 photogs at West Hollywood eaterie, Ita Cho, around 10pm. Orlando appeared to be in a great mood, even giggling when a photog asked if Jennifer Aniston "made a good traveling companion!" (Better than Jessica Simpson? Apparently so!) Then, the actor made his way over to Hollywood hot spot Green Door, where an X17 inside source witnessed Orlando partying with friends at a table with "a bottle of Grey Goose," and was "concerned" when the source saw him "definitely stumbling" on the way out. The source even saw Orlando take a shot before he left the club around 2am. Orlando first headed to a car to have an intense discussion with a man in the front seat, while a woman in the back just buried her face in her hands. Upon leaving the car, Orlando could be heard telling the woman "I didn't realize he was your boyfriend!" Hmmm, what could that have been about? Our photogs noticed he was being "uncharacteristically friendly", and when Orlando stooped down to pick up a pap's keys, our guy said he "thought he smelled alcohol on his breath." Then, Orlando got into the passenger seat of the Matrix, with a brunette woman in the driver's side (he would later switch seats with the driver just before the accident), a blonde woman passed out in the backseat. After driving west on Sunset, then turning around and going east on Sunset, the driver pulled over and let Orlando take over the wheel. Soon after, Orlando made a sudden U-turn on Fountain, when X17 photogs say he almost hit another car. But it wasn't until Orlando attempted a left turn onto Vista that he hit the parked Porsche Cayenne. Orlando began to walk away from the crash, but after some prodding from another photog on the scene, decided to turn around and go back to the car, where the two female passengers apparently sustained some injuries. A few minutes later, emergency services showed up to look after the victims, at which point all three climbed into an ambulance and headed off to the hospital, where they stayed the remainder of the night. Since then, Orlando's been laying low - his only communication with the outside world so far has been a statement issued by his rep.   Man, just when you think Orlando Bloom's night couldn't have gotten any worse, new pix slide across our desk! Or to be more specific, these pix of Jessica Simpson (to whom Bloom's been recently tied by OK!) out at Nobu last night with only her little dog Daisy for company! Don't forget that we caught Orlando telling a woman that he "didn't realize he was your boyfriend" last night - if OK!'s story holds water, then Orly can expect even more trouble once Jessica finds out!   Orlando's Rep Issues Statement

  ET has the text of a statement just issued by Orlando Bloom's rep about his car accident early this morning:

  "Orlando Bloom, who was in a minor car collision late last night, is grateful that no one was seriously injured. Bloom called for help immediately following the incident. He spent last night at the hospital to be with his childhood friend who sustained a minor neck injury. He is thankful that emergency services arrived so quickly and that the ER staff at Cedars Sinai took such good care of his friend."

  Well, that settles that - but notice how deftly it avoids the subject of Orly's alleged drinking earlier in the evening! Could there be more to the story? Stay tuned... At least it sounds like his friend's OK - after seeing her hauled away on the stretcher, that's certainly a relief!

  X17 XCLUSIVE - THE "INSIDE" STORY ON ORLANDO'S NIGHT OF PARTYING

  An X17 inside source was with Orlando Bloom at Hollywood hotspot Green Door last night before the accident. Here's our source's eyewitness account of what went on behind the Green Door:
• "Orlando walked into the Green Door Lounge with a guy and a girl at about 12:45am. They were seated a table that had Grey Goose. When celebs are at a club like the Green Door, the house usually gives them a free bottle of liquor and then provides them with mixers and glasses and the usual things.
• "He was having a ball. He was dancing in his chair, moving with the music, laughing and smiling. Q-Tip was DJaying. Other people joined them at the table. Friends would walk up to the table and say 'Hi'--it was that kind of scene. At that time of night there are a lot of show business people there.
• Our source says, "Orlando had his hand on a glass repeatedly. He was drinking a clear beverage the whole time. He never stopped drinking.
• "It was pretty crowded so he kept to his friends that he came with and other friends he saw at the club. They all got up to leave as a group at close - 2am. As he headed for the exit door he definitely stumbled on his way out to the car.
• "My friend was concerned about him to the point that he decided to follow him out the door to see if he would get behind the wheel. He was concerned that he was in no shape to drive.
• "When he got outside he saw that Orlando hopped into the passenger seat of a car. He wasn't getting behind the wheel. But then he had a discussion with people in the car and got out. Orlando then started walking toward another car after that. It didn't look like he was going to drive so my friend came back inside the club," said the source.
However, it's now clear that later in the night, Orlando did, in fact, take the driver's seat - with lamentable results! Stay tuned to X17 for more details about the crash as we get them...
