Razzi Snap: Eve Is Nothing But Green Backstage

Welcome to 2008! We’re still recovering from our holiday-induced coma, but to get things back up and humming here on the ‘razz, let’s jump in with some tasty appetizers to get the New Year cruising…

Rocker Eve has joined the long list of performers with backstage demands. But unlike Jennifer Lopez’s requests for “all things white” or Beyonce’s needs for “juicy baked chicken legs heavily seasoned with fresh garlic, seasoned salt, and black and cayenne pepper,” the rider for Eve states “there be no use of Styrofoam or plastic goods, no leather furniture, and only recyclable materials.” Damn. That’s beautiful. [via page six]

Daryl Hannah has been so overwhelmed by inquiries over the sale of her “badass” biodiesel El Camino that she’s decided to put the car up for auction. Starting January 7th (no link yet), you’ll be able to hit eBay and take a stab at owning this black beauty. Hannah also wanted to point out that besides the diesel engine, the car also comes with “automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, electric windows and cruise control.” [via dhlovelife]

We wrote about Ed Begley Jr. doing some eco-DIY videos for Home Depot a few months back — and then completely forgot to update on the latest additions. Allison Janney Gets A Green Makeover From The EcoZone Team

Four time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney, star of the hit series The West Wing, is the latest celebrity to receive a green home makeover from The EcoZone “Green Team”. Led by host Daisy Fuentes, each EcoZone episode chronicles a behind-the-scenes look at how celebrities turn their homes into environmentally friendly zones. Along the way, loads of eco-friendly tips are dished out — designed to help viewers make their own homes as green as possible Previous episodes have featured the homes of actors Ron Livingston and Patrick Warburton.

Janney received the following upgrades:

*The team installed a new fireplace mantle made of bamboo — a grass and not a tree — and the grains of the bamboo made for a lighter mantle complemented by recycled glass tiles.

*Janney got a new sofa from Cisco made from FCRC certified wood, natural
latex and eco friendly cotton and wool materials.

*Outside, the team refurbished an old weathered deck made of polyboard
and aluminum materials that are 100% recyclable.

*Because it was getting costly to keep the outdoor pool warm, The Green
Team installed solar thermal heating on a flat roof top that now heats
the pool using only solar energy.

Now you may be wonder why the hell a rich celebrity receives these upgrades and not some family in desperate need of some reduced energy bills or a healthier environment. It’s a honest question that probably boils down somewhere between marketing and audience appeal. The latter is in question because as ABC’s Home Makeover has shown us, family stories are just an inspiring or interesting as the supposed drama of the rich and famous. Another reason might be that celebrities are paying for these upgrades which would place them squarely out of the range of most families. So — we get simple cost-effective tips through a celebrity home makeover instead. Look for Planet Green to address makeovers for the rest of us.

Will Paris Beat Panettiere To The Hybrid Club?

Paris Hilton is in Berlin this week promoting a new sparkling wine sold in cans and also updating the rest of us on her environmental efforts. ”I changed all the light bulbs to energy-safe light bulbs and I’m buying a hybrid car right now,” the 26-year-old celebrity heiress said Wednesday. According to StarPulse, Hilton “turns off the lights, doesn’t leave the TV on or the water running when she leaves her house.” She continued, ”These are little things that people can do every day to make a huge difference.” Which in Paris’s case are instantly negated by the private jet she most likely used to fly to and fro Berlin.

However, much like rock star Slash’s ’small differences’ quote last week, Paris is advocating some good first small steps people can take to make their homes more energy-efficient. Regarding the hybrid car, we’re about as skeptical on that one as when Paris first starting dropping eco bombs early last year. Who could forget this quote? “I like hybrids, but a lot of them aren’t that cute. I’m thinking silver … or maybe I’ll get a green one!” This was back in August. In fact, we’re starting to see some celebrities display intentions but take their time in following through. Heroes star Hayden Panettiere vowed to get rid of her Porsche SUV back in early June but continues to drive it today — with that unfortunate action undermining her other efforts in the eyes of critics.

So, it remains to be seen if Paris will indeed be shuttled around in a hybrid or will simply continue to debate the cuteness factor. With many months between when she first decided to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle to now, there’s not much to indicate a change in business as usual.

Hangin’ With Ed and Inhaling Hydrogen Exhaust

I finally managed to catch up with Ed Begley Jr. in the flesh and it was great to meet the guy who is widely considered the “greenest” celebrity in Hollywood. There’s not much to tell or update on Ed that you can’t find out by watching his popular show, Living With Ed, but he was excited to be here and giving one of the Keynote addresses. He also took time out to visit each of the vendors here today and talk about their products.

Beyond the talks, GM is also busy showcasing some of its new green vehicles outside. Of particular interest to perhaps some in the auto world is that the only “working” Chevy Volt is here. Granted, it’s not using anything remotely close to the final product — but if you had to jump in and drive somewhere — it is a true electric car. In fact, they had it recharging. Usually, the power cable is just hanging out for effect.

Anyways, I also had the opportunity to test drive a Chevy Fuel Cell Equinox around the streets of Los Angeles. Chevy is distributing these vehicles as part of their Project Driveway campaign where 100 individuals/families from around the U.S. will test them for about three months for free. Needless to say, it was a seamless transition to jump from my rental car and into one powered by hydrogen. The only obvious differences were the quiet and lack of RPM on the dash. Instead, you have KwH for electricity being generated. Driving was smooth and peppy. And yes, you truly can inhale the exhaust with no worries. Now if only we can build a hydrogen infrastructure, create the gas in less energy-intensive ways, and make it affordable, the future won’t seem that far away.

Ryan Gosling Shows Off His Fancy Eco-Ride

If you read Ecorazzi religiously (which I’M SURE you do), you already know that Ryan Gosling is an eco-celeb extrodinairre. In the past, we’ve covered news about Ryan representing a spectrum of good causes, from showing love for Darfur, to proudly sporting the red teardrop pin at the Oscars. Now Ryan is taking it one step further by joining the famous and fabulous who drive happy, green machines. Yes folks, this weekend Ryan was photographed hitting the town in a black Toyota Prius and just continuing to prove that you can be both a good actor and good citizen!

Daryl Hannah’s Badass Biodiesel El Camino Is FOR SALE!

Daryl Hannah has launched a new online store to compliment her groovy green site, dhlovelife. It contains some pretty unique items from hemp surfboards to bamboo snowboards to eco-friendly treats for pets and sustainable playhouses for kids. There are a ton of fantastic items you’re not likely to find anywhere else so conveniently — and it could have ended there and we’d be thrilled. However, the activist/actress took it one step forward by including a section of the store you’re not likely to find anywhere else.

It’s called “Fantasy Playthings” — and while some of you probably have your heads in the gutter — let me tell you that this is so much better than porn. In this section you’ll find such wallet-rocking items as a hemp guitar (no trees — made from hemp pulp!), gorgeous tipis (24′ diameter), solar-powered boat (8-11 peeps, 30+ miles range), and a completely drool-worthy ranch bio-beast that can tow 2500lbs and uses sustainably-sourced b100 biodiesel. Not your average store, right? Once again, she could have stopped there — but stumble over to the next page and you’re treated to an item simply labeled as “Special Secret Surprise”.

Well, we’re here to whisper softly that Daryl Hannah is selling her badass biodiesel “El Camino”. Not only that, but this original black beauty also comes with its own b100 biodiesel pump + station. Not sure what that means? No worries — Daryl is providing some “easy” instructions and will even throw in a resource guide to finding the most sustainable b100 biodiesel source near you! George H. W. Bush Is Full Of Hot Air

As reported earlier by the exceptionally attractive, mind-blowingly charming team here at Ecorazzi, our current president (it’s so hard for me to write that), George Dubya Bush, might actually be a certified Woody Harrelson following, Ed Begley Jr. listening, Al Gore watching green head. So maybe it was baby Bush that convinced dad to try his luck at a little game of Eco Patty Cake. I mean come on, he is the decider…he decides things

This week it was reported that George H.W Bush, our forty first president, has embraced the gust with gusto and installed a 33-foot-tall windmill at his home in Maine. (Wait, so they’re not from Texas?) This Skystream 3.7 model from Southwest Wind Power is capable of producing about 400 kilowatts of power a month at a wind speed of 12 mph. To put that in perspective, an average household uses close to 600 kilowatts a month. And check this out: if your windmill produces more electricity than you use, the power company gives you a credit on your next bill for the difference. Since this is a “summer” home it’s pretty likely he’ll have enough earned credit from the winter to make it through the hot months without spending a dime-fiscally conservative to the end I suppose.

So on behalf of Planet Earth I would like to thank you Mr. Bush for being a pal and doing your part to help ensure a cleaner, healthier world. And on behalf of me I would like to say, “PLEASE STOP YOUR SON FROM RUINING EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
