Making her first appearance at a social event in some time, Britney Spears was on the blue carpet in support of last night’s Generation Rescue benefit fundraiser.
Hosted by Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, Generation Rescue follows a mission to “continue to discover and share the truth with families about the potential cause of their child’s Neurological Disorders so they can focus on effective treatments.”
"I wouldn't say I have a complete picture of the MBA ranking by female attractiveness," writes somebody calling themselves Markbot, on Business Week's online forum for business schools. However. "Wharton had by far the most attractive women of the schools I visited and Chicago GSB had by far the least attractive women that I visited." User Dabots chimes in, "this can be pretty easily settled by using Facebook." James N., a commenter who probably hasn't been laid since Bush's first term (and that was by accident), adds, "I'd hit up schools in the lower tier. Texas Tech!" Oh, to be free, white, and 21!
Just think! In ten years, these people will be putting just as much energy into denying you health insurance or causing the next subprime crisis or whatever.
Wesleyan University, one of the most annoying liberal arts schools in the United States, had an end-of-school "huge block party" last night. Police used probably-unnecessary force (paintball guns with pepper balls, tasers, dogs) to disperse the 250 students on the street; some of them threw bottles at police cars, reports NBC30. But oh, those Millennial generation kids! Thank God they've liveblogged this: "Neither students nor police handling this particularly well. Someone chanting 'Glo-bal war-ming!' -> WTF?"

Angry students yelling at PSAFE to get police out of here. Pepper spray dispersed. Some violent words. Students restraining other students.
STudents yell about fucking pigs, dogs chasing more people.
Drunk people yelling really, really irately about their rights. "can't even breathe because of that shit they put in the air" car alarm goes off again. Students apparently under arrest.

It came to the office in a benign white envelope addressed to Alex Balk. When we opened it, editor Ann Shoket's business card fell out and then, so did the November issue of Seventeen magazine. The cover was so heinously bright, Choire immediately shrieked (on the other hand, Choire is always immediately shrieking) and threw it from him. I picked it up—a mistake. Three seconds later my eyes were burning. Why must Seventeen slather their covers in Hot Pink and Insane Aqua and Neon Yellow? It's like the magazine version of Claire's Accessories. The worst part is that even after you put it down, a scary green afterimage of Carrie Underwood's face floats in your head. Horrid! Vivid! Are teenage girls all going blind or something?
Troubling out-of-context statistics and worrying isolated anecdotes suggest that members of "Generation Y"—loosely defined as all the people younger and stupider and more annoying than you and your peers—are lazy, unrealistic freeloaders, still living off their poor parents well into adulthood. Employment agency Manpower released a study last year that found that two-thirds of under-30 Americans (and Canadians!) would rather "pursue their dreams" than "make lots of money." What the hell is wrong with those people?
HSBC found that across the world, senior citizens are giving more money to their children than they're receiving. In France, 65% of people in their mid-20s are still living at home! They're all preventing their parents from enjoying the fruits of their years of service at steady jobs with good benefits and maybe even retirement plans, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
Why would "Generation Me," as sociologist Jean Twenge creatively dubbed them, do such a terrible thing? Because for some crazy reason reason people kept saying "believe in yourself and you can do anything," on Sesame Street and such?
"It's depressing to realize that your unrealistic dreams are never going to come true," says Twenge. And to stave off the inevitable everyone's quitting their job every year to go do "humanitarian work overseas," which just won't pay the rent.
At heart, "Generation Lost," as I call them, is stuck in an extended adolescence, refusing to come to grips with reality. This "Generation Blank," as I also call them, refuses to support itself because all its members are selfish praise-junkies who don't know the meaning of hard work and self-sacrifice.
Or hell maybe they're all still leaning on their folks because the boomer middle-class dream was revealed as a vicious scam and the social safety net was spent and legislated away by our parents once they got theirs? Who knows!
In the end, though, you don't really need to worry about any of this if you don't feel like it.
So will Gen Y be able to deal with the realities of kids-and-a-mortgage adulthood? The answer is that they probably won't do any better--or worse--than their parents did.Ha ha ha sure, we'll do just fine with our student loans and shitty credit and subprime mortgages and service industry jobs.
