Let's recap: Mariotti, one of the most reviled sports columnists in America by fans, colleagues, and athletes alike, suddenly and without warning quits an outrageously lucrative newspaper job—one of the rarest commodities in all the media. Because he saw people at the Olympics "writing for web sites" and figured he should, too. Does he then start a web site? No, he goes to his former employer's biggest rival begging for, essentially, the same job he just quit.
Could you squeeze one more appalling quote into this story in order to cement your idiocy for us, Jay?

This was probably a wise move, because he is hated by Chicagoans, Cubs fans, White Sox fans, sports fans, athletes, his own colleagues, and readers in general. But no, he's not going into the hair care industry; he's had a revelation that sports journalism has become "entirely a Web site business." Oh. Lord:
Just back from Beijing, where he covered the Olympics, Mariotti said in a phone interview that he decided to quit after it became clear while in China that sports journalism had become "entirely a Web site business. There were not many newspapers there." He added that most of the journalists covering the Games were "there writing for Web sites."
Is it just me, or do you get the sense that Jay Mariotti is not entirely clear what a "web site" is? Nevertheless, he's decided to resign "after signing a well-publicized three-year contract extension in June." His own paper's editor apparently found out about Mariotti's resignation when an outside reporter emailed him for a quote. Think he's kind of a dick? Hate on, haters. All you're doing is making him more famous.

Usually when she shows up at a big music festival, she’s the main event. But yesterday (August 21) Beyonce Knowles was only in the house to cheer on her sister and a close friend.
The “Irreplaceable” songstress was spotted along with her husband Jay-Z at J&R’s MusicFest Concert Series in City Hall Park in New York City cheering on her sister Solange Knowles as well as former Destiny’s Child bandmate Michelle Williams.
Whenever they’re in New York City, Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z like to experience the finer things the city has to offer. And last night it seems they were in the mood for cuisine from the Waverly Inn.

Over in the West Village of New York City’s Manhattan borough, the paparazzi caught up with Beyonce Knowles and her boy Jay-Z as they were leaving Bar Pitti yesterday.
And apparently someone tipped off the rest of the city, as fans were anxiously awaiting the exit of the two superstars. Graciously, the hip-hop power couple greeted their awaiting admirers as they made their way out.
Reese Witherspoon was on the Tonight Show last night and told Jay Leno her TV viewing habits. It sounds like she pretty much watches television all day, because she said she watches a little of The Today Show, a little Good Morning America, then she catches The View, then Regis & Kelly, then soaps, also Martha Stewart’s show. She said she loves crafting and that she watches Martha Stewart for that, but that she flips the channel a lot. She also likes Project Runway and Amazing Race, and said she has a male friend who is going on Amazing Race who is a writer who she does yoga with.
She also talked about how she has trouble as a producer getting money and asking for favors, but when Jay asked her about demanding actors asking for things like bigger trailers and better TVs she said she understood that and doesn’t mind getting small comforts for actors, like their favorite coffee in the morning.
Reese said her worst auditions were when people put her down personally, and said things like “you’re not pretty enough,” or “smart enough,” or “tall enough.” Then Jay told the story of his worst audition, where he had to wait 2 hours for the casting agent to tell him that they were looking for a Woody Allen lookalike and he didn’t fit the bill. That was the most interesting part of this interview, considering that Reese didn’t tell any cute stories other than the fact that she watches TV constantly. As an Internet addict, I can’t relate.

If you’ve been keeping up, Tara Reid has been in Australia since the beginning of the months. And it seems she’s followed up her “Hooker’s Ball” appearance with a starring role in an Aussie musician’s life.
