Her ability to perform at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday concert last night was in serious question when she was hospitalized last week. But like a pro, Amy Winehouse showed up after all.
The Back to Black songstress, diagnosed with diminished lung capacity, still seemed to pull herself together enough to take the stage at the Hyde Park, London shindig. And she looked to be in fine form.
Commanding the stage in a colorful floral patterned ensemble, Leona Lewis helped Nelson Mandela celebrate his 90th birthday during a big concert in London on Friday (June 27).
Offering up a solid performance at the Hyde Park venue, Lewis was there to lend her support for Mandela and his global AIDS campaign, 46664.
She’s pretty much covered all of North America and Western Europe, and the next stop on Leona Lewis’ list is another gig in Australia following her MTV Australian Awards appearance.
The “Bleeding Love” crooner was spotted out and about in Sydney earlier today following a sound check for her intimate concert tonight at the Australian Museum of Contemporary Art.
Which apparently is not breaking news! But since at least two of us on the Gawker late shift didn't know, I'm just making sure we're all on the same page. I mean, when I read this lede — "The Spice Girls would love to perform for former South African President Nelson Mandela, but said on Monday they had not yet been formally asked to be part of his planned 90th birthday celebrations in June" — I nearly blogged that line without comment, you know? It turns out Mandela, who met the group in 1997, invited them to perform last year at his 89th birthday party, but Baby Spice was too pregnant. But so far, no new invite. Clearly Mandela has learned that the band really can't make a comeback, so he went big and invited Chumbawumba. After the jump, two men go through the exact same thought process in Dutch, though they pronounce "Chumbawumba" as "Pinochet."
The Jessica Simpson country project has just been given a much-needed boost, as Willie Nelson has agreed to help write songs for her upcoming album.
The decision to go country was first reported by Jessica’s manager-father Joe Simpson, who insists that his daughter is completely serious about making her latest project a big success.
