When you look at these two actors, has-been isn't the word that comes to mind, but then again, they both have a lifetime's worth of a body of work to their credit. It's not like either Al Pacino or Robert De Niro has to prove themselves anymore--I highly doubt there's any auditioning going on for them these days. Because it's just understood that they're both great actors, Francis Ford Coppola says that in addition to these two, Jack Nicholson, has also become a guy who glides by on his reputation, getting richer without putting much effort into present-day roles. Coppola told GQ magazine:
"They were young and insecure (in the old days)," he said. "I don't know what any of them want anymore... I don't feel that kind of passion ... coming from those guys, because if it was there, they would do it."Maybe they're just tired. That's a lot of years of pretending to be someone else. And my only real complaint is that Al Pacino's actually started to look like someone else. That ridiculous face-lift and the crazy hair he rocks to try and distract from it makes me nervous. He just looks pinched and even more excitable than he should. Other than that, who cares? I've been generating mediocre posts for the past six months, so I'm not sure that I can really do too much accusing here.
