Tonight's 60 Minutes sit-down with President-Elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle was the media equivalent of a fluffernutter sandwich, and it tasted good. Here the couple were relaxed and clearly happy to have ended the long campaign. Giggling with big smiles, the two won over the newsmagazine's senior-aged audience with feel-good family stuff and little in the way of substantial announcements. In the following clip, Barack relates his presidential way of dealing with Michelle's mom Marian Robinson. Click for the video.
Thanks to Blakeley for the CBS footage. You could hear Michelle Obama's exuberance as she discussed scouting her new digs:
Kroft: What was it like going through there?
Michelle Obama: Well, first of all, Laura Bush was just so gracious. She is a really sweet person. And couldn't have been more excited and enthusiastic about the tour. So that was wonderful. And her entire team, their team has been working closely just to make us feel welcome. But the White House is beautiful. It is awe-inspiring. It is. What I felt walking through there was that it is a great gift and an honor to be able to live here. And you know we want to make sure that we're upholding what that house stands for. But I couldn't help but envisioning the girls running into their rooms and, you know, running down the hall and with a dog. And, you know, you start picturing your life there. And our hope is that the White House will feel open and fun and full of life and energy.
Mr. Obama: Sleepovers.
Michelle Obama: And sleepovers.
You can read the full transcript of the Steve Kroft interview here.

A missed connection. You: Hot gay dude, maybe late 30s, some gray in your trim beard, on the Long Island Rail Road headed westbound circa noon on Saturday. You wear your iPhone headphones reversed—the right earpiece has the little microphone, silly goose! You were opening your mail and I couldn't help but notice your recent lab work results from the gay health center looked good (yay!), that you got ticketed recently for having your dog off leash (I love dogs too!), and that you're late on your taxes. We have so much in common! I was a little concerned about that letter you got saying that your driver's license was revoked? But then I decided that you were maybe opening a friend's mail for them! That is so sweet of you. I noticed that you were texting friends and they were all women; I'm glad you like women too, those gay guys who don't are weird. P.S. I hope your flight at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon went well and I think I love you!

Second acts are hard, and who knows the cruelty of aging out of a profession better than a model? The day eventually comes when each fashion industry worker must ask himself, what color is my parachute? Some will answer: It is steel-colored! But "slashing" as a career, as one ex-model has just discovered, doesn't pay that well—and it upsets the tabloids.
The Daily News gives the context to Saturday's psycho-slashing by ex-model Lee Coleman at the Texas Smokehouse on 2nd Avenue and 35th Street. "With the attack, Coleman joined a laundry list of violent, mentally ill men who have terrorized New Yorkers. Usually, the ill serve as a minor discomfort to the public. Now and then, the dangerous among them snap, leaving a trail of blood and fear in their paths, one expert said." Good job, expert. The paper goes the extra mile, with a stirring editorial that begs the city to stop the (literal) insanity.
True though: Historically, it has been the models who are the ones getting slashed! What a brave new era of opportunity.
