High School Musical 3 is the end of the epic High School Musical trilogy. It's like Lord of the Rings but the feet on the Hobbits aren't as hairy and it's not on cable as much.
But it looks like they might be laying the groundwork for a new one. They're introducing three new sophomore characters in the flick, to be played by Matt Prokop, Justin Martin and Jemma McKenzie-Brown.
High School Musical Director and producer Kenny Ortega auditioned over a thousand teen actors in the U.S., Canada and the UK. And he's sure that he found his sophomore "Wildcats". "We think these talented performers will bring lots of humor, new twists, and musical fun to the film," he says.
Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron better up their game. It sounds like they might have some competition. Vanessa better get back to her cell phone picture nudity tricks and Zac Efron should get even more girly. The tweens love androgyny.

A new documentary series called High School Confidential premiered on the WE channel last night. Creator Sharon Liese followed twelve girls, living in suburban Kansas, for all four years of high school, getting an Up series-in-miniature look at the agonies of being young and adrift. Liese is by no means the first to document young America (RJ Cutler had a very similar project on PBS in 2001), but her work still seems fresh and important. Because, I guess, no two people are the same.
Last night's premiere featured Cappie, a nice girl who casually wanders away from academics and toward drinking and boys, and Lauren, a popular dancer who, with remarkable poise and courage, copes with fears of illness and death after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The great thing about the episode was that both girls were portrayed through the same objective lens, the editing was open and even and never felt sensational or slanted toward one girl over the other. I suppose you could grumble that the whole thing is sensationalist by nature (the home page of the show's website features photos of the girls with unfortunate captions like "Anorexic. Wrist Cutter."), but so far the footage itself seems to avoid the easy finger pointing resorted to in the worst installments of other "let's follow young people" series, like MTV's True Life. Included here are two videos, one of Cappie enjoying the social life, the other of Lauren at her doctor's office.

Oh dear. Tilda Swinton, that actress we adore, has now got one notch against her. Well, let's say a half a notch, because her argument is sound. She recently said in an interview that she does not like the Harry Potter movies and would never appear in one because she's "loath to say anything good about going to boarding school." Hmm. We (or at least I) love Harry Potter, but similarly are not sure how we feel about boarding school. Plus she's probably got some long intellectual theory (or painful childhood experience) all about it, so yes, just a half point from Swinton house. [Showbiz Spy]

Instead, douse yourselves with these old-timey news station sign-offs, from the days when the networks took pity on their viewers and ceased to hurtle information at them around the midnight hour. The swelling arias! The purple mountain montages! The proud, if slightly canned, renderings of our national anthem! The men in uniform! Seriously, these sort of make Katie Couric's audience farewell seem downright anti-American, feeding as it does into "The Insider" or something equally horrifying.

Mischa Barton has been doing the Sundance press circuit over the last few days, promoting her movie “Assassination of a High School President” – which is actually getting some good reviews. But what she really wants you to know is that her empty-headed, party girl image is undeserved. I never knew Mischa Barton was so freakishly intelligent. According to an interview she just gave, she’s down to earth and smart. Mischa described herself as, “really academic.” And by that, it appears that she meant she has at some points in her life gone to school. She doesn’t give a single example of how she was academic, nor does she say anything that would lead a reasonable person to believe she possesses an ounce of intelligence beyond the very basics that get you through life. You know, the breathe in, breathe out, repeat thing. Not dodging in front of fast moving cars. She seems to grasp the basics that have kept our species alive, but not much else.
Mischa Barton didn’t seem so smart when she was arrested recently for suspicion of DUI. However, the star of the upcoming (and very buzzed about) “Assassination of a High School President” insists that despite her character’s mischievous ways, she was actually “academic” in her school days.
“I went to public school in New York until I was about 15, so I had a definite school experience, the whole nine yards,” the now super-blond starlet told Pop Tarts, curled up on the couch in her Uggs at Sundance.
“But I loved school, though. I was actually really academic, so I liked it … it was a lot of fun.”

School does tend to be a lot of fun when you skip most of it to film an occasional scene with a cute boy and hang out with your on-set tutor. Mischa goes on to talk about her upbringing in the film industry. Be warned, she uses the word “kinetic.” I think she most likely learned it from her Word-a-Day toilet paper.
And even though Mischa spent several seasons on the small screen as Marissa on “The O.C.,” the actress definitely seems to prefer doing films.
“I started doing film when I was 1, and I love it — it is the best experience for me,” she said. “Each film that you do — it is like a little group that you make friends with and you have that for life. When you go on a television series, it is a different thing. Of course you have it for life, but it’s a long-running show and it’s not the same kind of temporary kinetic energy that you get from a movie.”

Mischa you probably didn’t get that same “temporary kinetic energy” from your television show because you were supposedly a nightmare to deal with. You showed up late, hung-over, (sometimes still drunk…), were a total diva, refused to work with people, and generally made everyone’s lives such a living hell that they killed of your character by having her tumble off a hill in a car. Working on a film is probably a better fit for Mischa, since people only have to tolerate her for much shorter periods of time.

Vanessa Hudgens, has revealed to People magazine that she will be joining the cast of "High School Musical 3," participating in the third installment of the movie series that helped us to know who the heck she was when naked pictures of her showed up on the Internet. According to Hudgens, negotiations for the entire cast had yet to be signed, but that her co-stars were all near finalizing their deals with the film, set to be the first in the franchise to hit the big screen. Here's what Hudgens told People:
"I am so very excited. To do a third one for the big screen, I can't begin to think how much fun we'll have."Additionally, the young starlet will again be reunited with her supposed boyfriend, Zac Efron, who is looking so intently into the camera, as if to dare us to question his sexuality. Also, you can see Ashley Tisdale who looks super-cute, but as she's holding up her dog to her hair, I'm realizing that it looks like they both have the same highlights and low-lights. Is that what the kids are doing these days? Sigh. I'm old.

Vanessa Hudgens was leaving a gym with her dad and when he saw that the paparazzi was taking pictures of them he decided to blow off some steam at them according to Us Weekly. Well maybe not steam, but water from his water bottle. Problem was it backfired on him because instead of the water splashing on them it splashed on him instead. Vanessa of course begged him to stop, but it was too late because a camera is quicker that water. BTW I can understand why her dad would be upset about her picture being taken, after all she became infamous because of a few pictures…
This past September, after her nude photo debacle, OK magazine had reported that Vanessa Hudgens would be replaced in High School Musical 3 by a member of the Cheetah Girls. But those claims look to be untrue.
In news that’s sure to bring a smile to the faces of Disney fans around the globe, breaking reports tell that Vanessa will be appearing in the hit franchise after all.
The Times trots out that, duh, iPods are being utilized as an academic tool in some schools! The paper notes that Brearley School (disclosure, disclosure, I went there) has been using iPods for foreign language, music, English and drama classes for the last several years. Not a bad idea, merging cultural phenomena with scholastic curricula, and it sounds like an effective learning tool. Yay! Well, actually, we were disturbed a smidge by something. What kind of fee is Apple paying Brearley's head-of-school Stephanie Hull for her testimonials? Or is she just perversely testifying for free?
Hull imparts marketing gems like this in a lengthy "profiles in success" on Apple's website: "The amount of storage space on the iPod is substantial; it's a very powerful machine"
And: "The iPod is portable; it offers wonderful clarity of sound. And there are accessories like the Griffin iTalk that allow students to have the speaking as well as the listening function." Hull goes on tout the iPod's "incredible storage space" and its superiority over its competitors.
You really can't buy testimonials like that. Or maybe you can!
We're sure if Hull had asked, gazillionaire Brearley dad and one-time New York Times reporter Steve Rattner would have ponied up for the equipment. Or maybe the Bacon-Sedgwicks would have? Though "Your Diploma, Sponsored By Steve Jobs," does have kind of a nice ring to it.
It's so hard not to love Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch's evil henchman and honcho of Fox News and the new Fox Business Network. If you haven’t caught a performance of High School Musical on ice yet, what are you waiting for? Last night, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Kaycee Stroh, Chris Warren Jr. and Lucas Gabreel were all at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to check out the show.
According to the producers of the iced version of the movie, you will be getting more bang for your buck. The first act of the show contains the plotline from HSM 1, and after the intermission, you’ll get HSM 2 on the rink.
