She’s been in hiding since she announced her split with husband Robert “Mutt” Lange back in May, and last night Shania Twain emerged at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards.
The “Still the One” songstress ended up as the “major surprise” that everyone was wondering about as the awards show kicked off last night at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
It was surprising to hear of Shania Twain’s split from her music producer husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, after 14 years of marriage.
At the time of the separation announcement, the couple released a curtly worded statement:
“Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage. This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.”
There was no mention of remaining friends or the usual talk of in the best interest of their child. The pair have a 6-year-old son, Eja D’Angelo.
Then, raising more red flags, Mutt released his own statement saying that the divorce was “unfortunate” and just a result of them growing apart.
The “unfortunate” part usually means someone has regrets! Well, it turns out the grow apart comment may have been deceptive. It may have been more like a wedge developed because of an affair.
According to what People Magazine claims to be multiple sources, Mutt had an affair with Marie Ann Thiébaud, a longtime secretary and manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland, behind Shania’s back.
“Mutt and Marie Ann left their spouses for each other and are still in a relationship,” according to one source.
In fact, Lange is said to be STILL in a relationship with her!!!!
Mutt is denying any allegations of an affair.
“It’s absolutely not the reason [for the split],” he says. He also denied that he was in a romantic relationship with his secretary. “I’m not, no,” he said. “It’s not true.”
Insiders close to Shania, however, say she is “devastated. This came out of left field. . . She loved him.”
Shania is said to be coping with the help of “a very close-knit group of family and friends.”

At the time, the Canadian born singer, was a budding country singer in Nashville with just a self-titled debut album under her belt.
Still, she managed to attract the interest of Lange, whose producer credits included working with artists like AD/DC, Def Leppard, Foreigner and Bryan Adams.
He encouraged her to pursue writing her own songs and together, they quickly crafted her sophomore release, the blockbuster album The Woman in Me, which generated hits such as Any Man of Mine.
Their collaboration continued through later albums Come on Over and Up!, which successfully crossed over into the pop realm and sold millions of copies around the globe.
With hits like You’re Still the One, That Don’t Impress Me Much and Man! I Feel Like a Woman, Twain became one of the world’s most popular female pop singers.
Twain has racked up trophies from the Grammy Awards, Juno Awards, the Academy of Country Music and BMI Songwriter Awards.
After releasing a greatest hits album in 2004, Twain said last year that she was working on a new album, tentatively set for release in 2008.

Maybe Twain was hinting at issues in her 14 year marriage when she said she was doing some soul searching. Her rep has announced that she is separating from her producer husband, Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, 59, after 14 years of marriage. They have a six year old son together, Eja D’Angelo.
People Magazine notes that Shania also has a new perfume coming out this year. She is quoted saying that she struggled with her fame, which is thought to be why she moved to Switzerland in 2000. Maybe it was time for her to let go of a troubled relationship or maybe it’s been over for some time and since she’s about to make a comeback it was time to announce it.
Shania and Robert produced her 1998 hit song “You’re Still The One” together. It is thought to be aimed at critics of their relationship when they first started dating in the mid 90s. Robert is 17 years older than Shania and their relationship was met with skepticism.
