
A judge sentenced Wesley Snipes to 36 months in prison for his “brazen defiance” in committing tax evasion. Snipes was convicted in February on three misdemeanor charges for not filing his taxes and 3 years was the maximum sentence Wesley could have received.
Snipes was cleared of more serious tax crime charges in February. However, Snipes’s tax advisers, Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas Rosile were also jailed, for ten years and 54 months respectively.
The IRS, wasn’t messing around with Wesley, describing him to a court in Ocala, Florida, as a “truly notorious offender.” He did not have to go to prison immediately but must surrender to custody at a later date.
Wesley even had some of his famous friends including, Woody Harrleson and Denzel Washington, write letters in his defense. But his belated contrition and celebrity failed to impress the Judge. Snipes, who is twice divorced heads off to prison leaving behind his five children aged from 1 to 19.

Action star Wesley Snipes, 45, is due to stand trial next month (Jan 08) in Florida on charges he fraudulently claimed tax refunds of almost $12 million in 1996 and 1997. He is also accused of failing to file tax returns from 1999 to 2004.
